ADT Medical Alert plans and pricing

ADT’s upfront medical alert system costs are cheaper than some other companies because there are no equipment charges or activation fees (the base system remains owned by ADT).

However, your monthly cost increases as eligible items are added — for instance, fall detection is an extra $11 per month, and it costs an extra $2.99 per month if you want to add an emergency wall button.

  • Medical Alert Basic: This package is designed for in-home use and starts at $29.99 per month. It requires a landline and includes home temperature monitoring features. The pendant has a range of up to 300 feet from the base.
  • Medical Alert Plus: This package, which doesn’t require a landline, starts at $37.99 per month. It also comes with home temperature monitoring, and fall detection is optional with this package. The pendant has a 600-foot range.
  • On-The-Go: This package comes with a mobile base unit, GPS location capabilities and optional fall detection. It starts at $39.99 per month.

ADT Medical Alert FAQ

What is ADT Medical Alert?

The system has two primary components. The first component is a base station that establishes communication with the monitoring center during emergency situations. The second is a waterproof pendant or wristband.

How does ADT Medical Alert work?

In an emergency, you press the built-in button on the pendant or wristband. This action triggers an immediate alert at the monitoring center, initiating communication through the base station.

  1. Connect to center: ADT’s emergency monitoring center is available 24/7 and offers multilingual support. The company advertises that its average response time is 15 seconds or less.
  2. Talk to the operator: You can request help or tell the center it was a false alarm. The monitoring center automatically notifies first responders if you can't communicate verbally.
  3. Get local help: Once emergency responders are on their way, the monitoring center alerts your contact list in the order you’ve provided them. (You can also request the call center notify your contacts before emergency responders.)
How accurate is ADT’s fall detection?

It’s hard to say. No fall detection system is perfect, so customers who need assistance should always press the emergency button if they can. There is no automatic testing for ADT Medical Alert systems, so the company advises customers to test the fall detection at least once per month.

There are two ways to test your fall detection:

  1. Press the help button and, once connected to the monitoring center, tell the operator you are testing the system.
  2. Drop the fall detection pendant from a height of approximately 18 inches. It should take 20 to 30 seconds to interpret the movement and determine if a fall has occurred.
Will my home system work if the power goes out?

Yes, all base units come with a built-in backup battery. Medical Alert Plus works up to 30 hours; Medical Alert Basic works up to 20 hours.

Do ADT Medical Alert systems come with a guarantee?

If you drop the unit and it stops working, ADT will replace it for free. However, if you lose or damage the buttons, there is a charge for replacements.

Does ADT make a good medical alert?

As of publishing, ADT is one of our top picks for medical alerts. Reviewers like that ADT Medical Alert provides a sense of security, both for the wearer and their loved ones. Some reviewers say the device can be a little too sensitive, but we don’t see that as an overly bad thing. In these situations, reps are generally patient and understanding. What’s important is that it works when you need it.

ADT’s On-The-Go device is an excellent option for active adults who want the support of a monitored medical alert system without being tethered to their homes. The system has a portable base unit about the size of a pager, which lets you get help wherever you are.

The Medical Alert Plus in-home system has a decent range of 600 feet, and the base station has a digital screen that displays the temperature, date, time and battery level.

My sister referred me to ADT Medical Alert. She's had their service for several years. I only have the pendant. I take it with me everywhere I go. I don't fall, but I live alone. There's a staircase that I walk around the building. If I fall out there, no one would hear me. So, that's the main reason I got it. I do all my own shopping and I drive. I feel safer that I have this. I don't know how well it works outside because I've never had it respond. But it certainly works well here. When I take a shower, I have to be very careful that I don't turn too quickly and let it swing out, or it tells me I have fallen and I have to go through the whole thing. I have other people in this apartment. It's a senior independent living. Theirs that they get from local sources are only effective in their apartment, not even out in the hallway. So I am very pleased with this. I have recommended it also to the social workers at the senior center. My sister was very pleased with them too.

The people of ADT are very well-trained and are very user-friendly. I trigger it at least once a week by moving too fast or letting it swing. Or occasionally, I have dropped it. I take it off at night but it's right next to my bed. When I get up to the bathroom during the night, I put it on because if anybody's gonna fall, that's where they're gonna fall.

I have the On-The-Go type of deal from ADT Medical Alert. It's $33 a month, and to me, that cost is quite good. The quality is all right as well. I haven't had any problems with it. I put that on the charger every night and it charges. The wristband thing is adequate. It's not the easiest thing to put on and take off though. You don’t want to get it too tight. If you get it too tight, you get an irritation on the skin. Besides that, it's comfortable and light, and what I like about it is I can leave the house. If I had just the regular one, it's good for around the house and 100 feet outside.

I live up there in Greeley Hill, in the mountains and a wooded area, and I go and cut firewood once in a while. If something were to happen to me, I can push the button on my wrist and as long as I'm carrying the little receiver in my pocket, it can give ADT my GPS location, and they can talk to me. I have a medical alert device because of my age and my physical condition. I also have cancer, so my two daughters recommended I have something just in case. I've triggered the device twice accidentally, and ADT responded.

Thank you for sharing your positive experience with ADT Medical Alert. We're glad to hear that you find the cost of our On-The-Go package reasonable and that you haven't encountered any issues with its functionality. Your feedback about the wristband is noted, and we appreciate your insight on its fit and potential skin irritation.

It's great to know that the device provides you with comfort and peace of mind, especially considering your location in the mountains and wooded area of Greeley Hill. Being able to cut firewood and venture outside while having the ability to contact us in case of an emergency is a valuable feature.

All the interactions I've had with ADT Medical Alert's team has been outstanding. The device's base station has an indicator light that comes out. It says, “Test.” It flashes. We hit the test button. It starts to do the cycle through the system itself. And we have to pay if it passes. I've had to sometimes call and talk to ADT. We walked through it again and it worked. When Lottie fell, the device activated and notified everybody. It made me feel better that it would go off and work, because it functioned as it should have. I'm glad that Lottie has it.

Thank you so much for sharing your positive experience with ADT Medical Alert. We are thrilled to hear that you have been satisfied with our team's outstanding service and the functionality of the device's base station.

It's great to know that the indicator light on the base station is clearly visible, displaying the "Test" message when necessary. The fact that it flashes and initiates the system's self-test upon pressing the test button is a reassuring feature. We understand the importance of ensuring that the system is functioning correctly, and it's excellent to hear that you have been able to successfully perform the test with the assistance of our team.

We are especially glad to hear that when Lottie fell, the device activated and notified the appropriate individuals. The peace of mind it brings knowing that the system functions as intended during emergencies is invaluable. - Mazen

I'm most impressed with the price. I saw the deal for 32.99 a month. ADT gave me the GPS system, and I put it in my pocket. That has a microphone so when ADT called me, I could talk to them through it. But the necklace part is awesome. I was so happy to get my ADT Medical Alert device. I put it on my Instagram because I wanted to share the news. I'm a SAG-AFTRA member at the union so I meet all these girls at yoga class and the gym. I'm a bit older than they are, so I wanted to give them the good news that I found a great deal at ADT. It's new technology, but they don't understand that it's called On-The-Go System. And it's important to emphasize that all these young girls could feel safe in Hollywood, and have the freedom to walk on Hollywood Boulevard without getting injured by anyone or mugged.

I hope all the young girls could have it, especially these days with so much violence in the world. I feel safe and confident walking the Walk of Fame in Hollywood, with my ADT On-The-Go system device, because all I have to do is press a button and my supervisor at work, the police, plus my best friend in Hollywood and my family are called.

I was working in security Downtown LA for City Hall, and this six-foot ** male with no teeth tried to ask me a question. He was in my face. I got scared because I didn't want to get injured. So, I immediately showed him that I have this ADT button and the police will be called. It ended up being all right. It's nice to have just for peace of mind in case something bad were to happen. If I have to press the button that I carry around my neck, what it does is it calls the ADT security, and they flip on a switch that tells them my coordinates. And if they couldn't reach me on that little GPS box that I put in my pocket, they would call the police and the fire department and give them my coordinates.

The machine blinks for us to do a test every 30 days and when I see the blinking, I usually hit the necklace button and tell the reps I'm just doing a test. It seems like in the last three months when I'm doing that, it takes longer for ADT Medical Alert to answer my call. It says, "Call in progress" over and over until somebody picks up. We're in Weakley County of about 35,000 and it's our local ambulance service that comes. I live in the city limits and if our city police are not out on a call, because there's only one officer on at a time, they will come and get here before the paramedics do, if they're not busy. So, a lot of times, they're the first ones on the scene and then the paramedics come and check my mother out and do her vitals.

I just have been a little concerned a time or two that the call wasn't answered timely. They don't know that I'm just doing the test until I tell them but I have noticed that in the last little bit and it made me wonder if they are like everybody else and having a hard time getting employees or have lesser people manning the phones. But it's nothing that I would discontinue the service over. ADT Medical Alert is an addition to all the other things that you have to have as elderly people are in the world today. There are so many elderly people and you wanna keep them at home when you can, and it's a device that enables you to do that on a longer term than if they didn't have that. My mother complains though about the necklace occasionally, that it rubs her neck if she got on the shirt that doesn't have a collar or where the little rope piece is laying directly on her skin. It's irritating.

When I take my walk, I put one in my pocket and wear the other one so if something happens to me on the walk, I can call. I like my ADT Medical Alert. It provides an extra level of security. It's like having AAA. Your car will never blow a tire. But when it does, it's helpful to have. The only thing I have going against it is I've tried testing it a couple times but haven't got much of a response.

I put it on in the morning and take it off when I get through with my walk. It gives me a sense of security that if something happens, I've got assistance. I would recommend it. I had one alert where I fell on my face coming out of my house, and they got me help and got the EMT team there to take care of me. I also have to learn to take it off when I'm poking my hands in places where it might get set off. I've had three false alarms and they're always courteous.
