About AmeriFreight Auto Transport

AmeriFreight is an auto transport broker that works with a network of reliable carriers to help consumers transport their cars and other vehicles across the lower 48 states, Canada and a few other select locations. AmeriFreight offers a price guarantee, so the price you are quoted is the price you will pay. AmeriFreight also offers several discounts, so be sure to ask if you qualify for any of them. AFta gap coverage covers unexpected damages, so customers can have peace of mind knowing their car is covered. AmeriFreight can ship motorcycles, automobiles, trailers, RVs, boats, classic cars and trucks.

AmeriFreight cost

AmeriFreight notes that costs range from $495 to $1,300 to ship a sedan on open transport. Looking at the numbers on Amerifreight’s site, we estimate the average cost of a cross-country auto transport is about $935. Several factors will affect the cost, like the season, vehicle condition, vehicle size, distance traveled and popularity of the route.

You can use AmeriFreight’s rate calculator on their website to get a better idea of how much it will cost to ship your vehicle. AmeriFreight also has a chart listing estimated prices for several popular routes, and the company provides discounts for military, first responders, students and seniors.

AmeriFreight car shipping options

AmeriFreight ships to the contiguous United States, Canada and select international locations. AmeriFreight can also ship trailers, RVs, motorcycles, classic cars, trucks and boats. You can choose to go with enclosed shipping for cars that need additional protection. Door-to-door shipping is AmeriFreight’s most popular option due to its convenience — this means your car will be picked up at its current location and dropped off exactly where you want it.

AFta gap coverage works to cover up to $2,000 for insurance deductible coverage, up to $800 for minor damage, up to $350 for broker deposit paid for cancellation of shipment, up to $350 for lost, stolen or damaged keys and up to $50 per day for car rental coverage in case there is a delay in delivery of the vehicle. As long as the issue is reported within 48 hours of delivery, the AFta gap coverage should be able to cover it.

AmeriFreight shipping process

AmeriFreight details the auto transport process on their website. Remember, your car must be cleared of all belongings before shipping.

  1. Get a quote from AmeriFreight.
  2. Confirm your order details (vehicle year, make and model, modifications, pickup and delivery location, and timeline).
  3. Accept/deny carrier offer for pickup and delivery timelines and pay deposit in case of accepting the offer.
  4. Prep vehicle for pickup.
  5. Do a thorough inspection upon pickup in the presence of the driver and mark any damage that occurred during transport.
  6. Receive keys.

The drop-off took one day longer than it was originally scheduled to take but I was informed that that was a possibility when I booked. And I was told the pick-up will be either at the end of the day or the morning of the next day. I gave the driver a call. He was a subcontractor and didn't actually work for AmeriFreight. But I was talking to the driver directly and I told him where my house was, which was where the car was. He came into the neighborhood, drove by my house, turned around, and then we started the pick-up inspection. He looked at the vehicle and checked the gas to make sure it was under a quarter tank. I took the little XM radio and took it off so it didn't get damaged and then, he took panorama pictures of the outside. We agreed on any damage that he marked on a sheet. I signed and then he put the vehicle on the truck and drove away.

AmeriFreight communicated the price that I was quoted online was the lowest possible offer and that it was likely to be higher in the bidding process. So, the drivers or companies who were actually doing the transportation will bid against AmeriFreight as a broker. From the time when the bidding started to when it was picked up, I had to call them a couple of times to figure out whether I'd been picked up or not. And then as the price was going up, I had the full information. AmeriFreight did a good job of explaining that when you contact them about what they are and what they're doing and how to get the lowest price for their service.

The only trick that I found out was to ask a question when you get a bid and maybe the price will go down. I didn't counter. All I asked was if I could pay electronically on drop-off. And then, the company dropped the price. It was $250 from the original bid, which was great for me.

It almost seemed like no matter what I had asked for, the company would have offered to drop the price. So, consumers that are gonna book with AmeriFreight shouldn’t take the first offer. Just by asking an unrelated question, the standard response from the company was apparently to drop the price. It was weird. But that might be the transportation company and not AmeriFreight. My understanding was AmeriFreight was paid a set rate. I paid them $250 to find me a company. They have connections to various trucking companies and the trucking companies will bid. The larger city that you're starting in and the larger city that you're dropping off in, the cheaper it becomes because the margin of loss is relatively low.

I'm a traveling healthcare worker and I was on an assignment out of state. I shipped my car there and because I liked AmeriFreight's services when I went there, I used them again to ship my car back. Getting the service set up was very pleasant. I had Malia and she was very informative. When I had a phone conversation with her, she was very positive. She had really good customer service and she was leading me through the process of it being my first time. She was very helpful as far as providing me with all the information that I needed. I'm really big on customer service.

Malia really tried to work with me because I was working a night shift. I was originally missing their calls whenever I would have an offer. Malia worked with me to see what time would be best for me and for her to call. She would ask, "Is 11:00 AM good or 12:00?" I would then set an alarm for that time. If they had an offer, they would call me at that time. That was super helpful. It was my first time using this and I didn't really know how it worked.

The quote that was provided by AmeriFreight was okay. When I got my very first quote, they said it is gonna be based on whoever's actually picking it up and their offer. I like that you don't have to necessarily take that offer. That was super helpful because if I didn't know that, I probably would have assumed I had to take the first person who offered to pick up my car. When I was shipping my car to Minnesota, I didn't take the first few offers and then I got something that was more in the ballpark of what was more feasible for me. When I brought my car home, I took the first offer because it was already in the ballpark of what I originally paid to send my car before.

Once AmeriFreight got me over to the carrier, the carrier kept in touch. I reached out a little bit just because of my work schedule. I was trying to make sure that if I couldn't get the car, someone in the household would be able to obtain it. I did the partial payment so I needed someone to be physically there to distribute the rest of the payments to when my car was delivered. I was more in contact about the arrival so I can make sure of that.

The partial payment was one other reason I went with AmeriFreight. Shipping your car is not a super cheap task and you don't know how you're gonna receive it. Am I gonna receive my car the way that it was transported? Is it gonna get here on time? The partial payment was more appealing to me than paying the full price. It's like a deposit, which I do with most things in my life. I also didn't have any time constraints, which I liked. It wasn't like, "Okay, you have to do this day and this date." It was very flexible, which was better for me. I have already recommended AmeriFreight to some of my travel healthcare people.

AmeriFreight was more expensive by a couple of hundred dollars. But it just seemed like they were able to get me a better timeline and a better time window for pick-up and delivery of my Honda Accord. AmeriFreight reached out to me through text messages and I answered or called back. I spoke with the rep Chandler and she was very helpful. She gave me the steps in the process of everything, saying that the request for bids would go out. I wouldn't need to pay any money until I decided on the company. I signed the contract with them, at which time I would put a certain amount of money down and then pay the driver once they arrive out west at the delivery spot.

The pick-up was bumpy because I heard numerous negative things about the subcontractors. We arranged a pick-up time and a date. The actual transport company that I signed a contract with wasn't able to pick the vehicle up that day. As soon as I called Chandler at AmeriFreight, she immediately reached out to that company. She said, “Something shady's going on. I'm going to cancel this contract,” and immediately started looking for other transport companies that could pick up either that day or the day after.

The second company actually said that they were in the area and could do the pick-up that day or the following day. That worked out perfectly and they were very helpful. Chandler was, last second, on point and the communication was superb. My son received the delivery of the car in California. The other companies were saying that my son would have to meet them somewhere in a large parking lot. AmeriFreight was able to find this company that would drop the vehicle off at a large facility and then ship it on a smaller truck so it can be delivered to their single-family home. That was very helpful because he had no car and was in the military.

The car arrived the day that my son was expecting to arrive. That was eight days exactly. Once they got there, my son was actually FaceTiming me. We walked around the vehicle. It looked the same as when it was shipped out. AmeriFreight was definitely worth the money, even the extra money. There is just peace of mind and the customer service was superior. If I ever do this again, I'd definitely go through AmeriFreight. After shipping, other people at the company reached out and verify everything went well for the pick-up as Chandler was off. All in all, I recommend AmeriFreight.

I appreciated that Amerifreight called me to ask if I was still interested in getting my car shipped. Mr. ** was professional. He showed interest in what I needed to get my car shipped across state. I also appreciated being able to text and not always email or call to get answers. The only problem I have with Amerifreight is the carrier that was used to ship my car. They (I Deal Transport Inc) was not professional nor did they care about my vehicle. When approaching my residence they broken several branches off of my neighbors tree, in which my husband had to clean up. Documentation was not clear or good. He (driver) didn’t sign any of the documents.

There was no update as to where they were. The drivers contact information was not provided. Only contact number we were given was to an individual who was actually the boss and not the driver. When we called that number we only got a recorded message to the business itself. Much much later, after calling Amerifreight again to get updates, I got an update from Amerifreight stating that they would be there earlier than expected. Good news-right? Wrong!!!! When that day came, we got no communication from them-(driver). Just a no show. (Inconsiderate of customers time). I had to contact Amerifreight. I got no communication regarding the actual arrival date until days later.

When the carrier finally arrived, he was one day late from the original timeline. He (driver) was trying to speed through the process of delivery so that he could leave. There was damage, which I did report to the AFta insurance I purchased. After filing a claim in the very short 48 hrs we had to do it in, and going through many hoops (several emails, calls etc…) my claim was accepted. So far, after all my information was accepted and the claim process had started, I have not heard anything further. The reason for my rating and dissatisfaction was “mainly” with the carrier that Amerifreight used.

Your company states that you only deal with the best rated, reliable, safe carriers. “I Deal Transport Inc” shouldn’t have been on the list. The purchase of Extra insurance, (which should not have been needed) and the insurance the carrier was covered under was useless!!! There were way too many loopholes to free them from any responsibility to pay for the damages that were done! Customers should never have to go through that. Especially because of the high price of shipping the car. Please rethink the carriers that you use and change the statement that you only accept the best rated, reliable and safe carriers. Which was “not true” in my case!

    Not totally satisfied customer,

    Mrs M **

The first person I spoke with at AmeriFreight was Melissa and she broke it down very honestly and explained it really well. She let me know that she can't guarantee that the first price is going to be the price that is going to get my car shipped across. She explained to me that it's going to be up to the actual carrier that is available. She let me know right away that I could always deny and wait if I wanted to and that I have all the control. I really liked that she was open and honest.

We used AmeriFreight one time and I chose them two times after that. They do a returning customer deal and they also do a military deal. I worked with Melissa the first two times and the third time, I had a different representative. He was very open, too. He said he wouldn't give me the military discount because it's not as good as the returning customer. I liked that. They're very honest and that's why I continue to go back to AmeriFreight. I wish there was a little bit more communication between the representatives and the carriers on our behalf. It sometimes feels like we get a little lost because everything just starts coming directly to the consumer, instead of having a little bit more of a transition.

The first two times, I ended up having the same carrier offer to pick up my car. They were pretty good. They communicated and they had a smaller trailer, so they were able to pick the vehicle up in front of my house in Connecticut. But it was difficult for them to drop it off where we moved to in California so they set up a drop-off spot. It was in advance. I knew it was going to be this day between these hours and they stuck to that.

The third time, it was a different carrier and it was not as smooth. They said they were going to be a few days late and then in the middle of transport, they said their truck broke down so it was gonna be a few extra days. He said the drop-off point was gonna be fine and they would deliver out front. But then, I got a call and he said he tried to deliver my car but he couldn't deliver it to the address. He said I'm gonna have to meet him. At the time, I was with a nine-month-old and it was very frustrating. I had to take a Uber to meet him. Thankfully, they were close by but I would have preferred a little bit of an advanced warning.

The reps were able to give the inputs needed and everything was good. The driver was from another company that AmeriFreight picked and he contacted me. He picked up the car from my apartment and delivered it after a week in Massachusetts. They were not able to come in the correct timeline they promised but it was a one-day delay and I was able to manage that.

Great rep. Great service. Great experience. Two cars shipped very quickly and with no problems at all. Glad I picked this company. It's worth it to pay a little more for a good company. I'm glad I stopped searching & wasting my time and went with this company. My two cars arrived on time and in the exact condition they were picked up in. I was kept updated the entire time my cars were in transit. Thanks.
