    Vivint home security FAQ

How much does a Vivint home security system cost per month?

How much Vivint costs per month depends on your system and whether or not you finance the equipment. If you finance, monthly payments start between $10 and $40. As of publishing, recurring monthly fees for all packages include:

    • Smart home monitoring: $39.99
    • Video service: $5 (per camera)
    • Cell network maintenance fee: $1.48

Vivint states that equipment financing requires a coterminous monthly agreement: If you opt for a 60-month financing plan, you will have a 60-month contract. You can choose month-to-month monitoring if you pay for the equipment upfront.

Can Vivint be used without monitoring?

No, all Vivint systems include professional monitoring.

    Is Vivint safe from hackers?

Hacking is always a possibility with any home security system that uses wireless technology. Vivint’s Smart Hub encrypts signals to keep cameras, recordings and devices safe from breaches. The company recommends taking steps to secure your wireless network, such as regularly changing passwords and updating software and hardware.

    What is Vivint Smart Home?

Vivint Smart Home is a home security and automation company. It designs integrated smart home security systems, including features such as professional installation and 24/7 monitoring. The company was founded in 1999 and is based in Provo, Utah.

    How does Vivint work?

Vivint utilizes advanced technology, including wireless sensors, smart thermostats, smart locks and doorbell cameras. The Smart Hub runs on a cellular connection and connects to the Vivint app. Through the app, you can monitor and control all your integrated devices.

You need a wireless connection to use a Vivint system because the Smart Hub (the central control panel) uses Wi-Fi to connect. However, Vivint has a cellular backup that allows the system to work if your Wi-Fi goes out.

    Is Vivint worth it?

Vivint's system and services have a lot of great tech, but they come with a higher price tag than some other home security options on the market. And unless you pay for all your equipment upfront, Vivint makes you sign a long-term contract — typically for 60 months — which may not be ideal for those seeking more flexibility.

Overall, the majority of Vivint customers would recommend the company to a friend. Its customer support has received mixed reviews. Most report positive experiences, but some have expressed concerns about long hold times, cancellation policies, billing issues and technical assistance.

Yes, I was a victim of a residential burglary 5 months into my new residence. False sense of security. My best friend told me to get an alarm a couple of weeks into my move. Due to the nice, safe, and new neighborhood I felt we would be okay in the City of South Corona. Unfortunately thieves have vehicles to move around and go to the neighborhoods where they believe hardworking people have nice things. Or sometimes you have uncertified home service professionals coming into your home to perform jobs. Yes, this happens in every neighborhood. It’s a crime of opportunity.

I did my research and soon learned that Vivint was a great company and had great people working for them. Due to their track record they were not cheap. Over 4K was invested into their security system. It brought value to my home, sense of security to my wife and a peace of mind to our family. That does not have a price as long as they are fair. Technician Jorge ** showed up on time, explained everything well, and did an outstanding job with setting up the equipment. He was neat and cleaned up after himself. He gets 5 stars with out a doubt.

The only question I have is where was the company truck and the equipment should be stock on the truck in case you decide to add extra equipment. Thank you for working with me. I will be paying a 24/7 monitoring fee and equipment fees for the next five years. I plan to live here for the next 10 to 15 in a secure home. My home. Thanks Jorge.

I usually don’t answer door to door salesman. He caught me walking in from work. I work odd hours. Have a newborn baby and my wife now stays home. It was between a dog or a security system. I reluctantly listened to Hayden sales pitch after working a 16 shift. The products seemed high tech would do more than I wanted and would be convenient for a price that seemed reasonable. When I told him I wanted to have dinner over it with my wife and to come back the next day. He did the normal salesman thing and pushed back about 3 times before he left for the night. I did my research.

The next day he returned quested him on some pricing. We negotiated a couple of products and my system was installed later that day. I had a minor mishap with the install team and my fridge. They owned up to it. Didn’t try to hide anything and apologized. Things happen. I communicated this with Hayden he told me I would be taken care of. We will see if that happens. So far the system has not been in for 24 hours. The app is very customizable. I have noticed that two of my cameras will drop offline periodically for about 20 seconds then reconnect. I will be monitoring this. Overall I am impressed for the price. Once the equipment is paid for the monitoring fee is reasonable.

Josh, the Vivint Tech, came to our home right as scheduled. He was simply amazing. We wanted to have this system reinstalled in a different location in our home. My father has dementia and we wanted to be able to know if he opened the doors and went outside without us knowing when he visits. The VIVINT system had already been installed in this new house we bought. Josh came in and introduced himself. We felt uncomfortable with the board being by the front door, so he moved it for us into the living room. He also change the batteries and gave us new passwords and reset it for our personal use. We could not hear the doorbell or the announcements where it was originally installed in the foyer. We had Josh install a keyless entry on the front door. He also left us a keyless entry for a bedroom door to be installed at a later date.

Josh was an amazing guy. He was so patient and so kind. We could not have asked for a better Tech. Everything works perfectly. And it’s exactly the peace of mind we wanted. We even had a tip sensor on the garage door installed so when the garage door goes up, we are notified. Our NEST thermostat was also hooked up to the Vivint board. He helped us to hook this all up to my phone app. It takes a little while to get all of this done. And he was so patient with my husband, me, & all our questions. He had answers for everything that we asked. And he showed us everything he did along the way. He even showed us how to use our system, our phone, and how to arm and disarm everything. And it is a reasonable assurance in cost per month. Josh, thank you, thank you for everything you did for us!!!

LOVED LOVED LOVED Chad ** our sales/technician. What a gem. He understood our needs and took care of them immediately, and had us completely installed the same day, As for the "sales department" I was really shocked that they promote their "sales team" to steal other employee's clients. Chad and I had our appointment on the books for WEEKS. I get a call from Rich 2 days before my appointment, calling to make my "installation" appointment. I said, "How can you make an installation appt, without knowing my needs and what equipment we will need." Then he was adamant about making the appointment one day earlier, I said, "Sure, let's get it done sooner." 30 minutes later I get a text from Chad confirming our appointment, he didn't know who Rich was, nor did he want our appt changed. I said, "Don't worry, I will see you on Friday as planned."

Rich calls me 15 minutes later, saying, "AWESOME, you are confirmed for Thursday at 2, see you then." I said, "Excuse me, my appointment is with Chad and I just confirmed with him that our appt HAS NOT been approved." He still tried to steal Chad's appt. When I asked a supervisor, I was told the sales team is ENCOURAGED to do this. **!!! How unethical can you be with your employees. Absolutely disgusting behavior. So happy I knew to stick to my guns and insist on seeing Chad and only Chad.

I own two houses. I have had VIVINT (previously another company that I can’t remember) in Arlington TX since 2008. I purchased a new home in Waxahachie TX and BRINKS (formerly another company that I can’t remember) was already at the house, I just had to activate. We became dissatisfied with BRINKS and I chose to also put VIVINT at the Waxahachie address.

Yesterday Ali, an outstanding technician, arrived to install. I had been told I was “pre-approved” so I was surprised when Ali told me I needed to “apply for credit”. I didn’t understand since I already have an account for the home in Arlington but reluctantly agreed to “apply”. Ali went back to work and in a few moments I got a message that my Equifax account was locked and VIVINT could not get approval. I had locked my account almost two years ago due to a bank irregularity when my previous bank was acquired by PNC, and was told the freeze was for 12month unless I requested the freeze again. I did not request an additional freeze, have not applied for any credit and thought the freeze no longer existed.

Once I was made aware Equifax needed access, I tried to reach Equifax online but they could not verify who I am!!! WHAT???? I had to them call Equifax which proved to be a V E R Y arduous task!!! My call was “bumped up” to three different supervisors and then I was finally told there was no freeze and no entity had tried to verify my credit. WHAT???? All this time Ali was patiently waiting and heard much of what was going on because I had the Equifax call on speaker phone.

Finally, the third supervisor sent another link after being convinced I really could not access either of the prior links. The Equifax supervisor assured me they had had no problem with the final form link but by that time my patience and nerves were stretched beyond my ability to cope any longer. Ali to the rescue!!! He understood what I was being asked to do and showed me on my MacBook how to accomplish what I needed to do to complete the Equifax form!! Had Ali not been present I know I would not ever have been able till comply with the Equifax request. After two hours on the phone, Citizen was able to verify my creditworthiness and Ali quickly finished the install. Ali was the epitome of professionalism and maintained “cool” at all times, even when I was on the verge of losing my mind!! THANK YOU TO ALI FOR MAKING THE INSTALL A SUCCESS!!!

The tech was very pleasant. However, he didn't ask where to install so it was placed at his eye level. I'm tall and would like it at my eye level. He said the cord wasn't long enough. The chime box I'm to replace. As of now, there's no bell. I didn't get the Vivint sticker.
