This is the first time I have ever had pet insurance. I’ve had dogs my entire adulthood. I now have three active purebred dogs ranging in age from three to down to nine months. All of my dogs have been adopted or fostered. For some reason after I adopted second one, when the veterinarian asked me if I had pet insurance, and I said, no, I went home and started researching. All of my other dogs have been quiet toy breeds, but these three are pretty wild and crazy. I always thought pet insurance was kind of a waste of money to be honest. I had heard some stories in which pet insurance just didn’t really pay anything or that there was a huge deductible, etc. When I got home from the vet, I started doing some research and landed on Healthy Paws Pet Insurance because of the deductible, premiums and no lifetime maximums.

Not long after this we decided to foster a puppy. She appeared to be healthy and perfect. But after we had her for a few weeks it was clear she was having some issue. I took her to my vet who sent her to a specialist. She had have surgery. We were devastated. Not only were we so worried about our puppy, but we were worried about the money. Never have I been so grateful as I have been for Healthy Paws! They paid our claim so quickly and it was so easy. I just uploaded the receipt and the doctor's note online and they sent me a check about three days later! I cannot say enough good things about them. I HIGHLY recommend Healthy Paws as pet insurance!!

I was very excited to finally have a dog of my own when I brought home Hercules in January of 2022. There were so many great joys that I was not prepared for, and it’s been one of the best decisions of my life. Given how important Herc is to me, I quickly realized how important it would be to have pet insurance ready to go to ensure that I would be able to always provide him with the best care possible while managing as much of the worry that can be associated with that. Healthy Paws was recommended by a friend and quickly proved to be a top option amongst other policies that I compared it to.

Submitting a claim is a very simple process once you have a copy of your pet’s medical record and invoice, and their app and website make it as simple as just a few clicks. So far the Healthy Paws team has been very quick to review and provide feedback on my claims, and I’ve been so relieved to see the things that have been covered. Their team is very thoughtful and always checking in to make sure Herc is ok and answer any of my questions. I am a very happy customer and highly recommend them to any pet owner.

Boudreaux, 3 1/2 years old, is our 5th golden retriever over the past 40 years. We never purchased pet insurance before this one. The reason, our previous golden developed Osteosarcoma at age 8 and required hospitalization and an amputation - very expensive and heartbreaking. He died 6 months later - way too young. We got Boudreaux as a pup and signed him up for Healthy Paws Pet Insurance. When he was about 4 months old, he developed a bowel obstruction from eating kelp during a trip to the beach. He required emergency surgery which saved his life. The Healthy Paws online claim process was efficient and clearly delineated. Just 3 weeks ago he became lethargic and developed a fever.

Turns out, despite being on Simparica, he had anaplasmosis, a tick-borne disease that caused his platelet count to drop precipitously to life-threatening levels. Because we had insurance, we didn't hesitate to take him in, and good thing we did when we did. He was accurately diagnosed and responded promptly to treatment. Again - Healthy Paws came through. We received a check in the mail just 5 days after the claim was submitted online. Not only that, but we received an email inquiring about his health. We couldn't be more pleased. We highly recommend not only having pet insurance for your beloved pet, but using Healthy Paws. Without insurance, we might have waited too long to take our boy in.

After having Healthy paws for 5 years without much of a need for them, my dog began having spinal issues and IVDD surgery twice which I was billed $9k each time! The first time expensing it to Healthy Paws was a little bit of an effort since they do need the official full historical report from your vet before paying anything out. However, the second time was seamless--I had made 5 easy claims up to the point of the surgery and they quickly paid me out each time, all they need is the official invoices.

Something important things to be mindful of that may result in disappointment--but I think these are the case with any pet insurance:

    1. As far as I know--they do NOT COVER PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS, hence the need for the full medical report before they begin paying out. In our case, they paid out every claim that wasn't a pre-existing issue without issue.

    2. There is a deductible that resets once a year before they cover anything, as well as a % they'll pay after you hit that--but you choose that deductible and the % that pays out.

    3. They DO NOT COVER VISITATION FEES, and they make this very clear. So, you may go to a vet 5 times racking up quite the visitation feeds that aren't covered, but they'll cover any treatment & tests beyond that.

    4. Once you make a claim, you can't change your plan, so you're either locked in, or go somewhere else that won't cover any new pre-existing conditions that occurred.

Outside of these, Healthy Paws really has great customer service on the phone every time I've called, and they've paid out quite quickly and efficiently on every claim.

For the first time since 1973, when I first started owning dogs, I decided to purchase pet health insurance for both of my dogs. Fortunately, I made that decision when they were just pups, locking in a reasonable rate. Having had many dogs in the past who have had complicated medical issues, such as cancer and bloat, I thought it a wise decision. I was right. One of my present dog developed a chronic autoimmune issue, with associated symptoms and medical issues.

Healthy Paws initially asked for lots of documentation, which I understood and provided, but once we got the process started, they have been fast and accurate in their reimbursements for medication, diagnostic tests, and treatments. They recently even wrote to ask about my dog's health and how he was doing, They seemed truly interested in my input. I am so relieved I was able to purchase insurance, as I do not know if I could have afforded George's treatment easily. I highly recommend!

I want to express my deep appreciation for Healthy Paws, who came to my rescue when my dog was hit by a car. Healthy Paws was absolutely exceptional. Their compassionate customer service team provided invaluable support during a very distressing time. They processed my claim quickly, ensuring immediate medical care for my dog. Healthy Paws covered most of the medical bills through their "direct pay" service. This meant I was not paying all of it out of pocket and they paid the hospital directly. I highly recommend Healthy Paws to any pet owner. Their care, support, and financial assistance was outstanding and made all the difference in my dog's time of need. Thank you, Healthy Paws, for being a true savior for my beloved dog. Your dedication to pet well-being is remarkable, and we are forever grateful!

    Original Review: Nov. 1, 2023

I've been a policy holder with Healthy Paws since 2019 and this was my first time submitting a claim. My experience with the Claims Review and Appeals Review team has been subpar and am contemplating legal action. The Claims team denied my initial claim because it did not meet policy, which was not accurate. I submitted an appeal and after waiting for close to a month the reviewer came back with information pertaining to another case (they were informing there was no evidence of a prostate issue - my cats are both females).

I let them know I was requesting reimbursement for a tooth resorption situation, which they then mentioned was not reflected in the medical documents. I emailed them again the specific part where it highlighted it and that I'd like to talk about a supervisor about the handling of my case. Today I received an email saying my case was closed without any explanations. It's so frustrating that after 4 years of paying my insurance I submit one claim and they pay no attention to it and reject without the appropriate reviews. A very poor experience am hoping no one has to go through.

We’re sorry that your claim and appeal experience did not meet your or our expectations. As you noted in your review, our team had an issue with notations in the medical records and your appeal case. Management will follow up with team members working on your account in that regard to prevent a similar occurrence with any pet parent from happening again. Your claim was appealed and is in final adjustor review. You should receive your Explanation of Benefits in the next 24-48 hours.

I've had Healthy Paws for 6 years now for my German Shepherd. Unfortunately she was born with Addisons which requires expensive monthly visits to the vet. She's also had many costly health issues over the years. Healthy Paws has always made it easy and fast to file claims and get reimbursed. I don't know what we would have done without their help!

My dog needed to have surgery to remove some masses for biopsy. Between that and a few follow up appointments it was a good amount money. I submitted the claims and they were approved the next day. On top of that Healthy Paws reached out to ask about Finn’s recovery. I was very touched they took the time to do that.
