About Homesafe Transit

Homesafe Transit is a moving company that provides services for residential and commercial moves. It's a licensed interstate broker, which means it works with carriers to help customers relocate. It can arrange for both local and long-distance moves as well as storage and packing services. All Homesafe’s carriers have a $750,000 bond while en route, but the company also includes a $10,000 valuation policy with its moving services.

    Pros & Cons

    Pros

    • 100% binding estimates
    • Licensed and bonded
    • $10,000 valuation policy included

    Cons

    • Restrictive refund policy
    • 10% credit card processing fee

    Bottom Line

Homesafe is a broker that works with partner companies to provide a variety of moving services. Canceling can be difficult, and refunds are limited (if available at all), so be careful if your plans aren’t set in stone.

    What is Homesafe Transit?

Homesafe Transit is a licensed moving broker that provides help for both residential and commercial moves. This means the company pairs you with a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration-authorized carrier that transports your goods to a new location instead of doing the moving itself.

    Homesafe Transit provides:

    • Local moving
    • Long-distance moving
    • Storage
    • Packing and unpacking

Coverage for lost or damaged goods is included, and you get access to 24/7 support while your goods are being shipped.

    How does Homesafe Transit work?

Homesafe Transit lets you request a moving quote online with a simple form that only requests:

    • ZIP codes you're moving to and from
    • Moving date
    • Number of rooms being moved
    • Name and phone number

Homesafe Transit also states that its estimates are 100% binding.

On moving day, your household goods are moved in either 26- or 53-foot trucks. You also have access to 24/7 customer assistance while your shipment is being moved to your new location.

Homesafe Transit’s moving services include a valuation policy that covers up to $10,000 in loss or damages, and all its carriers hold a minimum $750,000 bond while shipments are on the road.

Before your movers arrive, Homesafe Transit recommends you:

    • Make a detailed list of all your items
    • Get sturdy packing supplies (Homesafe can provide moving materials, like boxes and bubble wrap, for a fee)
    • Clean out unnecessary or unused items
    • Pack as much as you can by yourself to cut back on labor costs

For extra health and safety protection, Homesafe Transit also suggests you:

    • Have cleaning supplies readily available
    • Leave any doors, cabinets and closets open for the moving crew
    • Discuss safety preparations with your carrier

You won’t be allowed to ship:

    • Hazardous material
    • Combustible/flammable items
    • Pets
    • Plants
    • Explosives
    • Perishable food
    • Valuables (like cash, jewelry, credit cards and medicine)

    Homesafe Transit costs

To get relevant pricing information for your move, you’ll need to contact the company to request an estimate. Homesafe states that all estimates are 100% binding.

Your actual cost is provided when a moving specialist completes your estimate. Homesafe prices are based on “geometry,” not weight — i.e., it considers the amount of space needed to move your belongings. Also, you may be able to receive a discount on packing services if you have a disability.

Homesafe Transit only accepts certified funds for payment. So, if you need to use a credit card, it must be approved, and you'll be charged a 10% processing fee.

Your deposit is nonrefundable unless you cancel within a certain time frame. One page on Homesafe’s website says cancellation must occur within 48 hours of booking, but another page states that the request must be within 72 hours of booking, so the actual cancellation policy is unclear. Homesafe did not respond to our request for clarification by the time of publishing.

Regardless, all cancellations incur a fee of 11% of the deposit amount.

    Homesafe Transit FAQ

What services does Homesafe Transit offer?

Homesafe Transit offers long-distance moving, local moving, storage, packing and unpacking.

    Does Homesafe Transit offer quotes?

Homesafe has a short online form you can fill out to request a quote. Once you submit this form, a company representative should reach out to you with pricing information.

    Where is Homesafe Transit available?

Homesafe Transit is licensed as a nationwide moving broker, but it's unclear if the company has any internal limitations on where it operates.

What is Homesafe Transit’s cancellation policy?

Homesafe Transit doesn’t offer refunds on services rendered, and deposits are nonrefundable unless you cancel within a certain time frame from your booking date. (The company isn’t clear on whether that time frame is 48 or 72 hours, and it didn’t respond to our request for clarification by the time this article was published.) If you cancel after that period, you'll only receive a credit for future moving services, minus the cancellation fee. All cancellations are charged a fee of 11% of your deposit amount.

Your deposit is also nonrefundable if you schedule a close pickup date. The company isn’t clear on whether this limit would be seven or 10 business days from your booking date.

    Is Homesafe Transit legit?

Homesafe Transit is a licensed interstate moving broker with over 51 years of residential and commercial transit experience. However, Homesafe has a strict cancellation policy that includes additional fees, so you may end up paying for nothing if you have to switch plans before your moving date. We recommend you reach out to Homesafe for a quote and clarification on its policies before choosing it as your moving company, especially if your plans are subject to change.

I contracted with Homesafe Transit to move my household belongings, which were in storage in Boise, ID, to Florida. Their website pictures a semi moving van. Unfortunately I did not see these reviews or I would have avoided them like the plague. This was a major scam from the get go. I signed a contract for the quoted amount of $2,761.76 with $1,176 down on my credit card. They nearly immediately called me back and said I had more "cubic feet" than I had declared. I hadn't declared anything except some of the things and estimates of others, stressing multiple times that I had moved before and the content would require a 26ft truck space. I reluctantly agreed to an additional $1,000 down which I paid immediately. While the agreed upon time frame came and went, I was contacted again and told I had more content than I had declared.

At that point all contacts by them were by text, no permanent records if you didn't know how to screen shot. I then spoke with "Katie" who encouraged me to pay more or cancel, she and I agreed that it would be best to cancel. Immediately, I no longer had access to the original documents online. The next morning I received a phone call from "Julio" who said he heard what had happened to me and he wanted to help. He said he had a truck in Boise bound for FL with room for my belongings and he would appreciate the fuel assistance. We had a lengthy conversation due to my reluctance to trust again. He assured me over and over that he was not with Homesafe. He provided his (supposed) business address and phone number in NJ. I finally acquiesced and decided to trust him.

The events that followed were much the same as others have described, delays, requests for more money, no shows and then finally a rented 26 ft Penske truck showing up at the storage facility claiming the truck was already half full and he could only bring part of my stuff. I said no, all or nothing. After some arguments from Julio, I instructed my friend onsite to lock the units and leave, whereupon Julio sent me a taunting, rude, disrespectful text that he always works for Homesafe and I was not getting any of my money back. The only thing this company was truthful about was that they were keeping the money! Think about this, I did too late, when they kept demanding more money because I was not truthful about the "cubic feet", they had no access to my storage units - how would they know that?

I subsequently submitted my complaint to the Governor's office who forwarded it to the Federal Commerce Department where it resides as of now. Please save yourselves the trouble and to not trust this company and others like them, They have no shame in preying upon people and scamming them out of money with no delivery, partial delivery, or by picking up belongings and holding them hostage at the delivery point or even storing them in some storage unit without telling you where that is. I am trusting the Commerce Department to catch up to them and take appropriate action. FL laws protect senior citizens (which we are) with some heavy fines and prison time. J.B.

So I was getting prices on moves out to San Diego because I was out doing a working interview for 5 days and needed to secure something if I got the job and decided to take it because they would want me out there as soon as possible. So, I took a call from Nick at Homesafe Transit and explained to him my situation. I made it very clear that I would need to be able to get a refund on my deposit if I didn't get the job and he assured me that all I was doing was locking in the current price and if I needed to I would be able to cancel as long as I didn't cancel last minute. I told him I'd know within the week if I was going to go forward with the move.

Fast forward a week and I have decided not to take the job in San Diego due to cost of living. I shoot over an email to Nick and Reggie, my "customer service" representative and received no reply for a couple of days. I then email everyone on the list saying I'm not going to be moving, I want my deposit refunded. I received a reply that said my window for a refund had closed but I was welcome to apply the deposit for a move in the next year. 1st, I never would have made a deposit had I known there was a "window" because I wouldn't have even known whether I was actually going to be moving within that timeframe. 2nd, you think I'm going to call on you again in the next year if you've already played me once? The mistake I made was not looking up their reviews first before I paid the deposit. When it comes time to move I'll find a local company that will come and look first to give me a full quote.

DON'T DO IT! Homesafe Transit kept my $645 deposit and lied about it after they sent the shadiest movers EVER who tried to charge me triple the original quote when they in a rented truck with taped-on sign with a different company name on it and a "unauthorized" DOT number! First, they said the movers had my deposit but said they would get it back and refund my deposit since March 2022. It's July now and they finally admitted to having my deposit and said it is gone and I won't be getting it back. They are a predatory company who only offers a 48-hour window to cancel and don't stand behind their service. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! Don't write them or do an electronic check! The bank won't help you. All checks even electronic ones are non-negotiable. I hope this saves someone a lot of time and money. Use a reputable company, not Homesafe Transit. It's worth it not to give money to these swindlers!

      My customer service notes:

3/21 Frankie contacting dispatch. Sent email with a photo of the truck sign with unauthorized DOT number.

3/23 Frankie said to send her email and they will cancel. Then she said 48 window to cancel. Speak with the manager about refund based on the unauthorized DOT number.

3/31 Alex said the movers have the deposit contrary to what the movers told me that the broker had it. The manager is trying to get it back. They only offered $150. They will make sure I get my money back either way even if Homesafe has to pay it.

4/11 Tatiana said she will ask her manager and they will call me tomorrow. They moved offices.

4/12 Frankie says she can't believe they haven't sent my refund yet. "I can't freaking believe it!"

4/28 Kimberly "We're still working on it. You're just going to have to be patient with us." Line went silent and I was put on hold for 10 min until I gave up after calling back. Worst company ever!

7/6 Alexis said to take it up with the carrier. Said the former customer service agents were not authorized to refund my money and I wouldn't be getting it back. She hung up on me when I became angry. I called back and didn't catch the man's name I spoke to but he said my deposit was gone. Finally, he admitted they had my deposit not the moving company.

Please head my warning. You do not want to deal with this company. Their real reviews on other sites show what a nightmare they are. I'm so glad I didn't put my items on their truck and only lost $645 instead of all of my stuff!

July 2021 - This has been the worst experience for us ever. We have moved 5 times within the US so far and this has been the most awful experience ever. We still have not received our stuff. It has been more than 11 months and we have paid $5000 already. We have no money left for anything. We were quoted $3200 initially by someone named Michael and we were happy that it was so low, that we signed the initial deposit with $1370. Then a day before the move, there was a quality call where the dispatch manager Eric ** quoted $4900 (because there was more stuff apparently - which we already provided to Michael). We couldn't get our $1370 back so we had to proceed with $4900.

Then the mover (Zano Moving and Storage) came and he showed an agreement of $5700. Honestly, I don't know what was happening here. It was the day of the move - we had to leave the state the next day - what could we do with our stuff. I showed the mover the agreement of $4900 and then we negotiated (which was another bad experience) and then he said $5400.

What could we do now? He said pay half now and pay the rest at the time of delivery - So we gave a check for $1870. He loaded all our stuff. He put down the delivery date as 7/25. We still have not received our stuff. Then after he picked up our stuff, a week later the mover (Zano Moving) called us and told us that the check bounced and was canceled. He even sent us a picture of the canceled check (crossed out).

Told us we needed to pay $1900 initial payment and the rest at delivery. We were so stupid and trusting. So we did a money transfer of $1900. Then a couple of days later, the mover (Zano Moving) told us that his office mistakenly deposited the check and if that's the case, then there will be no balance at delivery. So now we have paid $5000 to "Homesafe Transit" and "Zano Moving and Storage". Our stuff is still not delivered.

Update January 25, 2022 (6 months Later). The mover Zano (Avraham **) called me today and said that my stuff is still in Las Vegas and provided this address -

Extra space storage 7525 w Sahara Ave Las Vegas NV 89117. Unit number 1209. Under name: Yosef **. He told me that if we want, we can take our stuff and that he would pay us the money required.

I sent him the following message - "We have already paid you the money to deliver our stuff to us. You are responsible for the delivery. So please deliver our stuff to our address or else we will hold you responsible. If you can't, you hire a mover or something and complete the delivery. You are responsible for the delivery. And we will hold you liable for delivery." We have not received a response. It has been more than 6 months now. We still do not have our stuff delivered.

Complaints so far that I have filed - FEDERAL MOTOR CARRIER SAFETY ADMINISTRATION - Case #: **. State of Nevada - Office of the Attorney General - CONSUMER/FINANCIAL FRAUD - Consumer Complaint - #**. State of California – Department of Consumer Affairs - So far we have not received any remuneration from either Homesafe or Zano. As of today, June 29th, 2022, it has been 349 days. I have no idea where our belongings are. No one seems to help us. Everyone has started some form of investigation, but we don't know anything. It's absolutely heartbreaking to have gone through such an experience and we still don't have any resolution.

I had the worst experience with this company. Sign a contract with them but when it comes to honor it, forget it. They want more money and hold your belongings hostage till you pay. I had to pay another $3000 To only get half my belongings. When the moving truck finally arrived, furniture was damaged, boxes crushed, items broken and worse was stuff was stolen. They are so nice at first, then forget it. Try to talk to someone, No one answers the phone, answer emails or texted. SCAM, RUN AWAY, DON'T WALK. Filed with their so called insurance comp. Haven’t heard a word in 2 months. They must have their own insurance comp.. I should have read up on this so called company first. Would never have used them. I used Homesafe Transit in May of 2021. I talked to Eric, gave him my list of belongings to move from Minnesota to Illinois, he told me movers would be in contact with me within 3-5 days and quoted me around $3500 for our move. I never received the call to schedule and confirm my items, I had to call them repeatedly before finally getting in touch with someone. But then found out that Eric had entered quite a bit of my furniture incorrectly, like my living room furniture had been quoted as patio furniture, quite a size discrepancy, which resulted in me being charged an additional $2000.

Immediately after submitting my deposit my bank card was flagged for fraud in Ireland which was very strange and made me suspicious. Unfortunately I had no other choice, my husband was away for work, we were closing on our new home in another state in 3 days and I was by myself with 2 small children. So I had to go ahead with our reservation and move. Day of, movers didn't arrive until 7pm, it took them 4+ hours to pack our belongings and they weren't able to fit everything despite my paying an additional $2000, so I also had to rent a Uhaul to take the rest of my things on my own. I was told by the movers they would be at our new home on the day of closing, May 17th.

They were not there May 17th, I had to call homesafe repeatedly trying to find out where our things were, when they would be there and always got an "I don't know" response. I slept on the floor with my kids and pets for a week waiting for them to tell me they were going to bring our stuff. Finally I got a response that they would be at our home Friday but I needed to get them an $800 money order. I did because my children needed their beds and toys, all of our belongings. They came, different truck, different movers, so our things had been loaded and unloaded more than once, and several of my items were broken or damaged. The delivery movers shouted to file a claim within 30 days as they were running to their truck.

So I tried to file a claim, called homesafe several times trying to get the claims for, being told they sent it, but I wasn't receiving it, Finally got the form, entered all the info from my paperwork, listed my broken items, but the moving company doesn't exist and the DOT number isn't registered. All of the information provided by the movers was fake, so I was unable to file a claim because movers couldn't be located or held accountable. It's been a year and basically the only response I've gotten from homesafe on my Google review is "too bad". DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

Everything they tell you upfront is a lie. You will not receive any of the discounts they tell you, your items will take MUCH longer to arrive than they estimate, and their estimate will be extremely inaccurate. In my case, they even lied and pretended that they were NOT a broker. They are NOT AUTHORIZED to operate despite claiming that they are on their website. You can verify this yourself at the FMCSA government website. Overall our final cost came out to 138% of our total cost listed on their binding estimate even though we didn't bring over half of the items that were listed on the binding estimate.

After they took our money, we were unable to reach our original representatives to ask them about these lies so we opened a dispute on one of our initial deposits. After the dispute, they came crawling back to us asking us to wire them the money, ignoring the fraud and violations that they've performed. Then they threatened to hold our items in storage and auction them off.
