    HomeServe coverage exclusions

Your coverage varies depending on what plans you select. It’s always wise to read the fine print on any warranty to give you a better idea of what’s included. Here are a few exclusions you may see in your contract:

    • 30-day waiting period: You can’t make a service call within the first 30 days of purchasing coverage.
    • Negligence: If negligence by you or someone else caused damage, those repairs aren’t covered.
    • Unusual circumstances: Damages caused by war, pandemics, natural disasters and other unusual circumstances aren’t covered.
    • Correction of repairs: If you tried to fix something yourself first, the cost of correcting mistakes isn’t included.
    • Unlisted systems: Parts of your home that aren’t listed in the “What Is a Covered Repair” section of the contract aren’t covered by your warranty.

    HomeServe claims and coverage limits

You can file a claim with HomeServe online or over the phone. This feature is also coming to the app, though it’s not available as of publishing.

Plan holders can call the emergency repair line to request help. Once you file a claim for an urgent repair, a service provider should be in touch within four hours. However, if it’s a less urgent repair, you may not hear back until noon the next business day.

When you file your claim, you’ll need your HomeServe ID. You must describe the problem you’re having and share your availability so the company can send out a service provider.

You can track the status of your claim using the company’s online tracking system.

    Coverage limits

The coverage limits for HomeServe’s plans vary depending on which plan you have. Check out example contracts on the company website for more information on all of HomeServe’s plans.

When we have a claim, we call up the insurance and tell them that we have a problem and what area it is. They look up our insurance to be sure we have it and then they tell us that they will call someone to get in contact with us as soon as possible. We had a problem in the front yard a couple of weeks ago with our water service line leaking and within an hour, a plumber called and said they were on their way. It's usually pretty prompt, especially if it's something serious. The contractor comes and looks at the issue, and then they call up the HomeServe and tell them what they found and how much it is and what they would need to do. All of that is going on with them rather than us. Then they come and tell us that we've been approved to get this done.

Sometimes, if it’s gonna be more, then they obviously have to talk to us about that it’s not gonna be fully covered. So there's a little of that going back and forth, mostly with the person that came to do the job and with the insurance. And then they do it. Then they give us an invoice saying what happened, what they did and it's done. It's pretty simple. In the beginning, I was a little nervous about how HomeServe does the claim because I was used to doing all that myself. But they have it worked out pretty well with the companies that they use. Everyone's been very good. The claims have gone through smoothly and we feel very comfortable with it now.

I had a very bad experience with the service from the contractor that HomeServe sent out. They sent me someone and told him, "We don't live in the building. Once you're there, call me half hour before you get there and I will make sure we have someone to open for you." When he came in, the guy had an attitude and he didn't wanna wait. He didn't give me enough time. I said at least half an hour before he came in. His time was supposed to be from 1:00 to 5:00 and he showed up 15 minutes before 1:00. Once he called me, I had to be there within half an hour. I told him that I was gonna send someone ASAP. But 10 minutes later, he called me and said that he was leaving. I told him that I was sending someone on the way but he left and he didn't answer the phone.

I called the company and they said they would call back. I called their supervisor and we were gonna call the driver to come back but they never called me back. I called HomeServe and I explained the situation. The lady was very helpful and she did an emergency call for some other company to come in. The tech called me right away and gave me enough time. I sent someone to open for him and he did the job. It was the sewer flooded in the basement and he was in a rush, and he just did the water. The water went down and he left the place a mess. He didn't clean up his job. Till now, it's a mess. Overall, HomeServe's service is very, very good. They've been very responsive. But they need to be more strict on the contractors that they send. They should hire better contractors.

There were some things I talked to HomeServe's rep that by that time it was approaching 6 o'clock on a Friday. And I had a couple of things on my bucket list. I said, "Can y'all do this?" He said, "Yes. And it'd be under your contract.” I said, "Let us get settled from the other things we're going through. The in and out of towns and schedules, and we'll get back with y'all." But I would like to have him do the work. HomeServe's rates are very modest. But even if they were more, I would keep my service where it is. Because inside electrical things always go out. And that's not something I'm trained to do.

I had two inside electrical switches not work every time you flip them up. And the gentleman replaced those and was excellent. For the dishwasher, HomeServe gave me the runaround. But the gentleman was excellent. He was as cordial as he could be. If we have anything else, I would request him. I was very satisfied. This happened on a Thursday. And he was able to get out later that afternoon. I got a text. HomeServe said he would text me. They thought he could get out late that afternoon or first thing in the morning. But he texted me 45 minutes prior to getting to the house, which a lot of them don't do. And he was on time. He was one of those guys that did it by the book. If I’d want to run a quick errand, my office is five minutes away. And it was easy to run down to my office. I was very pleased.

I've been with HomeServe for many years and they come and they do what I need them to do. I'm a single homeowner and I don't have someone handy to fix the problem for me right then and there. It works out for me. I have every plan that they have just in case. I pay $175 a month for all the plans that I have and even the home equipment plan is no longer valid, I was grandfathered into it. I'm grateful for that. Recently, something was wrong with my washing machine and they came and fixed it. I really liked the tech. When he came the first time, he assessed the situation and told me that one of my pipes was clogged and he placed the order. The only thing I didn't like was I was told that they would follow up with me but I had to call HomeServe to find out whether or not the pipe was ordered. The pipe came in and they gave me the number to call Bing back so that they could schedule to have somebody.

My Ring doorbell wasn't connecting. It wasn't getting power from the box downstairs. Came to find out that my box blew. We had to replace the box. Rainbow Electric came out. This was not the first time that Rainbow's come to my house to do repairs. The guy was very specific and attentive to the situation. What I always liked about any of the vendors was that if I asked questions, they didn't mind answering. I shadow them all the time because this is my house and I like to know what's going on. Everybody always says to me, "You're doing the right thing." I like that they say that. They also don't mind me following them. Plus, they're entering into my home, so I wanna make sure that what they're saying they're gonna do is actually what they're doing.

I like the vendors that they send. Whoever vendor they send, everybody always explains to me what they're doing. They take their time and they explain to me. They tell me what I need to do with my boiler. Only one time, I had one vendor that I didn't particularly care for. But once the supervisor came and took care of everything, and I said, "Don't send him back." And they didn't.

I've been with HomeServe for years. They deal with the smaller companies. I like the companies they deal with. The contractor usually asked what was the problem to find out, and they would schedule the appointment that they could come out on. I've had HomeServe for my heating system which didn't work right. This other company came out because the company I had before were plumbers. He said, "I know what part's wrong with this, but I don't know if you're covered." And he came up and said, "You are covered," That part was very expensive. I have the zoned heating and I know if one of the zone valves go, that's not covered. But I could call HomeServe and they would get somebody there for me.

I had a guy here a week ago because I had the wax ring in the toilet and my toilet was leaking. I thought the wax ring was covered on the toilet because that was replaced five years ago when I had the contract and it was covered. I said to her, "I don't know if you dropped covering that or not." But they didn't. Putting in new guts in my toilet was not covered, but HomeServe was good for putting on wax rings because you got to take the whole toilet off.

The week before that, I had the pipe that is outside the house for the spigot that you would put a hose on. I called HomeServe for that and it wasn't covered, but I had a plumber here. I said, "Do it." I asked for the same company when I called back the second time because I liked it very much and I also asked if I could have the same person back. They were available. And it was the second time that company got the plumber here the same day that I called. That company was very good. If HomeServe wouldn't cover it, I would use them as my plumber. You got a plumbing contract, they don't cover spigots. So, I have to have another plumber. I could get help and use the help because it's not easy. Most plumbers do not want to do repair work. They want new work. I have another plumber, but I don't know when he could fit me in. He is so busy because he does repair work. Also, plumbers' rates are terrible.

Had my sewer line back up last Sunday to where it was coming up in my basement sinks and bathtub. Didn't have a choice but to call a local plumber outside of normal business hours to come clean out my lines before the problem persisted and so my family could use the water for daily needs. Called Homeserve the day after, they set up an appt for me for today to have one of their preferred plumbers come out to check the pipes. I already told the person on contacted me to set up the appt.

I had a bellied pipe. Emailed it over to them as well as the plumber who showed up to my house. Got a call shortly after the appt from an agent at Homeserve letting me know my fix is not covered because the water is running freely through the pipes now after having a short term fix done 3 days previous so I didn't have a bigger disaster waiting for the next plumber appt. So now I have to wait for my sewer line to back up again, call homeserve to set up another appt, wait to send another plumber out there so they can see the mess themselves? Complete garbage! Proof was already sent to the plumber that I have a bellied pipe.

The fact that this company wants homeowners to sit on a sewer problem for days without running any water in the house just so their preferred technician can report the problem is absurd. I am sure once it happens again, they will find another excuse not to fix the problem and will be right back to square one. Sewer line belly or sags require immediate attention. Well you had the proof but could care less about fixing it. Easier to find ways not to cover the fix than actually fixing the problem that is covered until the plan I pay for on a monthly basis.

Updated on 11/08/2023: On Nov 6, 2023 the Home Serve representative offered a ridiculous low refund amount, and refused to negotiate a reasonable refund. Stating the reason being is that I paid on a yearly basis. The representative did not consider my 25 years as a customer with very few service calls. The representative also stated have If I had chosen to pay on a monthly basis, payments would have ended on the cancellation date with no additional fees, because I paid yearly they don’t refund. I would have saved $277.00 if paid.

Original Review: I cancelled a premium heat service contract 6 months into the contract. The contract states refunds will be prorated. I paid $554 for the yearly premium. Home Serve refused to refund any portion stating that they preformed a 20min boiler tune up that is included in the agreement. However if I would have paid on a monthly basis they would be no additional charges but if you pay the premium yearly they will not send a refund for the remaining months.

      2. **Delayed Response Times:** The contractor Wiese has consistently demonstrated a lack of urgency in responding to our work orders. In some cases, residents have had to endure prolonged periods without essential services, which is unacceptable.

      3. **Coverage Lapse:** Due to the prolonged delays and inaction, our coverage has lapsed. This has placed us in a precarious situation where we are unable to provide necessary repairs and maintenance for our residents, jeopardizing their well-being and safety.

We have attempted to communicate our concerns and seek resolution through proper channels, but the unprofessional follow-through and lack of accountability on the part of HomeServe and Wiese have been disheartening.
