I have been with BANK OF AMERICA FOR 32 years and should have continued doing business with them. I could not get a 5,000 loan with NAVY FEDERAL. Denied 3 times. Straight trash and unprofessional. Beware.

After 14 years of banking, credit cards, and auto loans through Navy Federal, I needed a one-month extension on my two auto loans due to a delay in receiving my VA benefits. I was denied for both, despite an exemplary payment history on every account I've ever had through them. Their customer service has been on the decline for a number of years, but this was the last straw for me. Unless you're active duty military, I would avoid this company like the plague.

I feel so discriminate because I couldn't open an account to deposit the money I'm going to receive for selling my property here in Lakeridge VA. My husband is a LTC and he works at Edwards AFB CA. I'm here in Virginia to taking care of business but I was not able to open my account at Navy Federal Credit Union in Lakeridge VA. I'm a Military spouse/family member. They said they would let me enjoy it, but my account still on review for a week now. Not nice at all. I don't have an American accent because I didn't born here, but besides I'm American Citizen I'm spouse of a Military.

Short version. I had a cash rewards visa will NFCU. Mind you I have paid off collateral loans with NFCU as recent as July 2023. In August 2023 NFCU canceled my credit line that was in good standing sending a notice to the wrong address, which never forwarded to me. Their reasoning is that because my credit card was due to expire, and my credit rating had gone down due to a period last year where I was struggling. I had other accounts outside of NFCU not get paid.
It is a terrible feeling to have to let something go that you know will hurt your credit, and I never missed any payments with NFCU because it's where I bank, I valued the card and the banking I did with them. However they do not look out for their customers best interest. Zero loyalty shown to customers, and I'm a 100% Permanent and Totally Disabled Veteran. They advertise to us and use veterans for their benefit, and if even the slightest risk factor enters they will drop you without a moment's notice.

I've been out of work for 5 months due to being sick. My account was empty and I was late on one credit card payment. I'm about to be evicted. My kids are hungry. A friend sent my 300 dollars to get the kids food and pay for their class pictures. Navy Federal helped their damn selves to it for the late payment and said it's perfectly legal for them to just steal money from my account if they see fit. A billion dollar company stealing money out of the mouth of children. How frigging sad is that?

BEWARE!!! I wish I had read the reviews before I tried to get a Home Equity Loan from this company. I have a credit score between 740-780 depending on the firm and make well over 6 figures in income. I was told I would easily qualify and that the loan would be closed in 45-60 days. It didn't. I was strung along for 90 days; much of it trying in vain to communicate with multiple loan officers who would routinely ghost me and refuse to return both emails and phone calls.
Eventually I was essentially denied for being an government federal contractor who works on an as needed as available basis for 3 different companies, despite having told them this to begin with, having several years of verifiable income from multiple companies and having been assured it would not be a problem. I explained to them that I worked primarily for three different companies (all for over 3 years) and that some carried me as a part time on call employee (W2) and others as an independent 1099 business. All of this was reflected on years worth of tax returns.
After randomly switching loan officers on me just to ask for the same information the last one was given, weeks of poor communication and assurances the loan was on track, I was told they could not count the income the company I had worked for most of the year (and 4 years prior) because the company had listed me as "on leave". I repeatedly tried to explain to them that being that I worked for 3 different companies (as I told them in the beginning), I would always be "on leave" from two of them because I cannot physically be in three different places at the same time. Despite several attempts to consult management or a supervisor, none ever responded to me. This company does not appear to be pro-veteran, or cater to defense contractors. I would highly recommend going with USAA or another lender, Navy Federal Credit Union is horrible beyond belief. The worst financial institution I have dealt with in my life.

Have an auto loan through Navy Federal, I use them for everything. Want to refi and they do not want to match what another bank is offering me. Tried to stay with them and figured they would keep their current members but they honestly do not care...

I worked 25 years after the Military in Sales and Sales Management, half of that in Loans and Insurance. If I had employees like the folk at Navy Federal, I would have went broke. The originator didn't answer emails or phone calls. When he did call at his leisure it was always some new problem. We submitted paperwork for 44 days, loan went to underwriting and there was a problem with debt to income. These people haven't a clue about lending. We have a new loan 2 weeks later at a major lender with a interest rate well below market using ONLY my income, not my wife's and mine. Don't waste your time getting jerked around by Navy Federal if you want a mortgage.

My issue is, like most banking systems you don't know when vendors post debits, you get charged an overdraft for what? Chime charges nothing. Cash deposits at the credit union ATMs- NOT POSTED THE SAME DAY??? WHY??? Lastly fees for minimum monthly account balances...Why??? So again Chime has zero fees...They may not have all the options but you will save $$.

Navy Federal took payments out of my account on a date that was not authorized. The employees were perfectly OK to speak with but the supervisors were terrible. I spoke with two self entitled supervisors one that sounds like he was in his mid-20s and the other sounded like they were in their mid-40s Michael and Jodi and all they could say that it was my fault. I’ve been with Navy Federal for 10 years and I’m going to be closing my account because of how they acted.
