North American Van Lines services

By offering several different levels of service and various moving products, North American Van Lines makes it simple for you to customize your move to meet your needs. The company offers the following:

Packing and storage services

The company has three options for packing your current home. You can do it yourself, have your movers do it or opt to pack everything but fragile items yourself. North American Van Lines should have the containers you need to pack everything you own. There are options for wardrobe boxes and dish-pack barrels, and the company has stretch wrap to protect your furniture.

The company can also help arrange the rental of a climate-controlled storage space if it’ll be a while before you move into your new home.

Loading and unloading

The movers will load the truck properly to ensure nothing shifts and breaks during transport. North American Van Lines also unpacks the truck at your new home — and you can tell the team where to put each box. As a part of this service, you can also opt for unpacking and debris removal.

Installation and assembly

If you want help setting up your furniture and appliances, your relocation specialist can help arrange for this help. You can also ask about cleaning services to ensure your new home is ready for you.

Full-value protection

Like most moving companies, North American Van Lines offers released-value replacement coverage at no charge. This level of coverage pays 60 cents per pound per damaged item. If you want to get the full value replaced, you’ll need to purchase additional coverage.

North American Van Lines cost

The company offers free ballpark quotes online. To get one, you’ll need to provide some basic information about your move, including:

  • The size of your house
  • Where you’re moving from
  • Where you’re moving to
  • When you plan on moving
  • Your name, phone number and email address

Once you get a basic quote, a moving consultant will contact you for more information, including a virtual home estimate survey. You’ll get a formal quote for moving when you provide this information.

You can decide if you want bottom-line pricing or not-to-exceed pricing. Bottom-line pricing means you’ll get a guaranteed price based on your personalized quote. Not-to-exceed pricing means your actual moving expenses may be less — but not more — than quoted.

The company also offers customized pricing for those who hire the company for additional moving services. Your moving consultant can walk you through your options so you can decide which is best.

The North American Van Lines website has a few example prices listed. For a more accurate quote for your specific move, contact the company for a quote.

Do I need to complete an in-house estimate with North American Van Lines?

Yes, to receive an accurate moving quote, you’ll need to complete an in-house estimate. The company offers a virtual survey that’s similar to a video call experience. This information helps your moving consultant make an accurate estimate.

North American Van Lines integrates technology to help clients track their belongings, lists its MC and USDOT numbers clearly on its website and provides a Quality Mover Award for agents who meet particular standards.

It could be a good choice if you want a customized moving experience. The company provides instant quotes on the website, but you have to agree to receive phone calls to get the quote — and then an agent has to complete a home visit to give you a more accurate, detailed estimate.

We chose North American for our relocation from Arizona to Texas. The entire process was easy from beginning to end. Everyone on the team communicated with us throughout the process, from the scheduled pick up to the scheduled delivery date. The driver was on time and the unloading crew were professional with handling our belongings, along with having a courteous demeanor. Very impressed with everyone on the team. We made the right decision choosing North American for our move.

The move itself went very well except for timing issues. Our driver Zac was excellent, knowledgeable, careful with our furnishings, and very pleasant to work with. His helpers were also very good. However, some packing was to take place on Tuesday of our move week with the load on Wednesday. Zac showed up on Tuesday in an 18-wheeler to begin the load. We weren’t quite ready. Also, he was to give us a firm delivery date on the load date. He said Saturday. He hedged a little but later assured us that a Mr. ** (Apparently the chief at Cord North American) said that Saturday would be fine. We cancelled our extra nights of hotel reservations at our destination. The next morning, near the start of our long drive, Zac called to say the delivery would not be until Monday. We had to rebook a hotel for two nights at an extra cost of about $200.

In fairness to Zac, the original weight estimate of our load was too high by about 30%, which seems extreme. That meant the truck had some spare room at the back. Cord North American found an opportunity to fill the truck with another customer’s goods, which had to be unloaded before ours. It was difficult to get that explanation out of Cord management, however, none of whom seemed to want to accept accountability. In all, we were very pleased with the performance of the driver and crew, though mistakes were made by Cord in the weight estimate and in communicating a realistic expectation for delivery.

Great Experience overall, Ian Roberts was a friendly, accommodating and a helpful advocate. Your driver was on time and efficient. The only issue we had was with your pack. The Packers packed boxes way to heavy, causing many of them to tear in transit and were very heavy to move around the new house. Labeling of box location could have been much better and packing done in more boxes to make them lighter to deal with. I would not recommend using these packers again.

I cannot say enough positive things about North American Van Lines/University Moving & Storage - I was worried about such a big move from Ohio to Texas but all my worries faded completely with the professionalism shown me from the staff at North American. Blake was so thorough and quite accurate as to the cost of my move. Freida was my coordinator and was wonderfully patient with me and my many questions. Nick was the trucker and his expertise was evident when he delivered my belongings on time and in perfect condition. Prior to my move, I had gotten 4 quotes - of these, Blake seemed the most confident in his estimate and in North American, as a company, to deliver top-quality service. He was right. Thank you to Blake, Freida, and Nick for such a great experience.

The move - from my very first contact with Donna ** - was effortless on my part. Julie ** was wonderful with the business part. She answered all my questions over many phone calls graciously and she always had time for me. The driver, packers and loaders - Brandon, Paul, Brock - were efficient, fast, and all my belongings and furniture came fine. Nothing was broken. Brandon even gave me hints on how to go about unpacking all the boxes. These guys were friendly and personable. All in all, I would recommend this North American Van Lines agency to everyone!

Worse move of my 40+ years of military service. Dara (Coordinator) should NOT be in customer service position. She left us hanging as to a crew showing up and if so when. Instead she stayed home and ignored our calls. The move crew showed up just before 7 pm and departed just before 11 pm. What kind of service is this? While they did a very good job packing up our goods the paperwork has mostly bins vice the contents written on the bins and boxes. Additionally, we were handcuffed all day as to when and if they would show. This put us one day behind schedule and again we could not go take care of moving concerns due to not knowing and we had to change reservations and such. Dara showed very little to no care of the situation and yet she was the coordinator. Spoke to her supervisor Gina and received the same lack of concern for handcuffing us a full day.

After our goods were packed it took two additional days to try and pry info as to when we needed to meet the delivery in Florida but again....Crappy service. I even called North American and was told our goods would arrive Monday 16 October yet our window was quoted as Tues to Friday. Dara could or would not obtain the information. She had the driver call us to which he wanted to deliver a full two days earlier than scheduled. He stated Sunday!!! This was the worse move of my career by far and working for Naval Systems Command HQ makes me want to have your company blacklisted or at least noted in records that L&J should NEVER be utilized. No one, military or civilian should have this stress placed upon them. Moving is stressful enough. I await a reply from a Top Level Executive before I make my decision to share my bad experience with HQ in addition to my military contacts. Standing by for apologies and making things right.

I do NOT recommend North American Van Lines, worst moving experience in my life. I was quoted $5700.00 after inventory for my move. 4 guys in a Penske truck show up from Southern Elite Van Lines. wanted $11500.00 for my move. Conducted themselves as if they never moved anyone before. Had to haggle all morning with the supervisor (MO) to bring the price down to $6000.00 they ended up moving about half my household items. Upon delivery once again they acted as if they had no clue as i had to instruct them to place the items inside the house- not the garage as they offered. Costly for me to rent U-Haul to retrieve left behind items. Nightmarish move to say the least, then they hit me up for a TIP! Everyone should be aware of this most unprofessional business conduct. LOOK ELSEWHERE. I will never do business with North American Van Lines/Southern Elite Van Lines in the future. Nor should you.

Response from North American Van Lines

Hi David, You did not move with North American Van Lines. You moved with a broker called North America ( no N) Moving Services or North American Moving Experts. They keep changing their name. I am sorry this happened to you. We have filed a claim against them in the past. We do not work with Southern Elite Van Lines. If you would be so kind to remove this review.

On 9/11/23 we hired this company to move from NY to NC. They seemed nice and great on the phone at first. But, What was written in the contract did not happen. Josh said they don’t use third party companies and also said that the price is the price. It will not change. A third party company came out with a U-haul truck. That company also tried to tell us that we had to pay for boxes, and tape, and wrapping…and that it would cost $9,000 extra than what was quoted!!! After we already went room to room with a representative of North American Van. This 3rd party company also said they would give us a better deal if we disregarded North American's contract and sign an agreement with them! They were going behind North American's back and trying to get a deal out of us. Crazy!

We sent them on their way, called North American to tell them what happened and they said how can we fix this. They refused a refund of our deposit but that a manager would call us. We said we wanted another reliable truck back out to move our things. A man called and asked what happened and said what can I do. We asked for a refund of our deposit because we had a horrible experience and are going with a different company. He agreed over the phone to refund our deposit within 7-10 business days. Still 3 weeks later and numerous calls to this customer service number we have not seen our $4500 deposit refunded and they are now saying we are not getting our money back.

These people are the rudest customer service agents I have ever dealt with. I can’t get ahold of anyone I originally spoke with regarding my move date and deposit. They keep passing me around from agent to agent because they now recognize my number when I call and will not allow me to speak with a manager. I’ve threatened an attorney on them and a gathering of phone records because all the calls are recorded. They are not phased at all. They have no sympathy or regret on preying on innocent people and should be put out of business for stealing people's money. They are thieves. Do not trust or use this company.
