    Pros & Cons

    Pros

    • Discounts
    • Haul a car behind the truck
    • Transparent pricing

    Cons

    • No trailers, just trucks

    Bottom Line

Penske is a good option to save on moving costs. Driving, loading and unloading a truck yourself requires more work than a full-service move, but it’s a more affordable moving solution.

    What is Penske Truck Rental?

Penske Truck Rental offers five different sizes of trucks for people who want to move themselves. Local moves are affordable, and customers typically pick up and drop off the truck from the same location. Long-distance moves are one-way, so customers leave the truck at their destination city. Penske’s online quote process makes it easy to get an accurate price with all fees included.

    Penske Truck Rental price

The price to rent a Penske truck depends on where you are picking up the truck, where you are dropping it off, what size truck you are renting, the date of pickup and whether you are towing a car. For an exact quote, visit Penske’s website and enter your information. Getting a quote only takes a few minutes.

    Penske Truck Rental moving services

Penske caters to two kinds of moves:

    • Local moves: Same-city moves usually require customers to pick up and drop off the truck at the same location. Penske often adds a small per-mile charge to the base price for renting the truck.
    • Long-distance moves: These are also known as “one-way” moves. Customers pick up the truck in one city and drop it off at the destination after unloading it.

Penske has five options for truck size, which lets you choose the perfect size to fit your belongings. Penske also sells packing materials and rents hand trucks. Every move comes with roadside assistance. Customers also have the option to haul a car behind their truck.

    Penske Truck Rental FAQ

    Is Penske cheaper than U-Haul?

Penske typically costs more than U-Haul, but prices vary by location. U-Haul has a cheaper 10-foot truck option that Penske doesn’t have. Comparing prices near you is the best way to know for sure which company is cheaper.

    Does Penske offer unlimited mileage?

Yes, Penkse offers unlimited mileage on one-way truck rentals.

How much is a Penske truck security deposit?

Penske requires a $100 security deposit.

Do Penske rental trucks need to stop at weigh stations?

Penske encourages drivers to follow all road signs, including ones that signal to stop at weigh stations.

Do you need a CDL for a Penske truck?

Driving a 22- or 26-foot truck requires a commercial driver’s license. All other trucks do not require a CDL.

Is Penske Truck Rental worth it?

Renting a truck from Penske is worth it if you’re moving yourself and not hiring a professional transporter. It's generally affordable, and the process to reserve a truck online is straightforward. We also like that you can tow a car behind the rental truck — just keep in mind that loading, unloading and driving the truck require a lot of effort. For consumers willing to put in that effort to save money, a Penske truck rental is worth it.

Rent a truck from Penske in Dallas TX, and they treated us good. They had our truck ready to go and we didn't have any problem. So if anyone needs to rent a truck, rent it from Penske. They'll treat you like a family and make sure you are comfortable. When I do move again, I will be renting a truck from Penske, and again thank you to the team of Dallas TX, (Irving) two thumbs up.

We rented a one-way truck for the standard 5 days. When we got to our destination they waived the $100 / day charge and let us use the truck for another week for free. I can't remember any company ever being so generous, so I want to thank the Penske people for their kind dealing with us. Also all the customer service reps were very friendly.

I would like to review the Penske Truck Rental on Stanley Gault in Louisville, KY. My customer service representative Rachael ** went above and beyond the call of duty for me and my situation. She gave me the best price for Penske rental that was over a 2-week period of time with a final one-way. I was able to call her anytime and I live in Brooksville FL but was renting from this specific Penske. Rachael provided 5-star service and professionalism for me throughout the process. She did the best she could with discounts and was able to help me to the very last day with coordinating the drop-off times and my work schedule. I had 100% service from her and I am recognizing her for the hard work and time she put into my contract. Thank you so much!

When I rented my first truck in August 2023 no one was in the office and the doors were locked and it was raining. Finally he showed up and we got the truck. We had to go back in the office because he forgot to open the gate and we didn't get the hand truck we ordered and everywhere we called we couldn't reach anyone. Finally we did the next day but then we didn't want it. Then I ordered another truck a week later. First they had an extra 160 miles on it and we had to go back in and have it corrected. We had the truck for 6 days and instead of mileage for 44 miles they charged us for that plus the 160 from the beginning. I had to fight to get that money before they finally gave it back. I told them they never gave me back my 100. 00 deposit but they ignored me. They won't acknowledge it at all. I wrote and requested a paper receipt sent to me itemizing each thing but they just ignored me.

I scheduled a one-way move from Michigan to Texas 10 days ago for a 26’ truck. 3 days ago I received a text to confirm the rental, which I did. The evening prior to the rental date, Penske sent me a email to advise what I needed as far as identification and credit card. My pick up time was scheduled for 7:30am; I arrived at the Home Depot and was advised that they didn’t open until 8am. So I sat in my car until 8am. At 8am I was advised that they didn’t have a 26’ truck, and was advised to call the metro Detroit Penske and they could advise where my truck was at and when it would arrive. I called and was advised that they didn’t have a 26’ truck anywhere. Thanks GOD that U-Haul was able to care for my rental truck needs! I will NEVER rent from Penske again!

So, I moved from Knoxville, TN to Vermont. I reserved the truck 30 days in advance both times. Both times, the truck I reserved was not available. The first move, they told me I needed to drive to Sevierville, TN. to pick up the truck. It's a full hour away. I was a big enough jerk to corporate that they drove the truck to Schaad road Home Depot for me. Took 5 hours. So I lost 5 hours of drive time. Ended up costing me $480.00 for 2 motel rooms because we couldn't make a 17 drive in the dark. I had only planned on 1 night in a motel.

Two months later, the same thing happened again. Except I only had to drive 30 minutes to Maryville, TN. to pick up the correct truck. Then back to Schaad rd. Home Depot to get a hand cart and moving blankets because Maryville didn't have either! Really? You're a moving company! The second truck was also a piece of junk. Dirty in the cab, dirty in the back, dented, scratched, bumper was almost falling off. Now let's discuss the car haulers. Both had broken ratchet straps. This is what holds the car in place on the trailer!

So, rent from Uhaul. Penske used to be a good company, but it's now run by a laughing stock of clowns. You might get a better price from them, but the reality is that their lack of professionalism WILL cost you money. And they don't care. Corporate are a bunch of selfish and careless people. I will never rent from them again!

We reserved a moving truck a month in advance for a cross country move, and when we arrived it was not available. The employee said this happens all the time. This impacts us because we have movers scheduled and hotels reserved for our multi day trip that we are unable to cancel the day of our move.

I reserved a truck a week in advance. When I arrived to pick up the truck, I was told that the truck was not there. The Home Depot employee fumbled around for a truck at a different location but was not able to come up with anything. After having stood there for 45 minutes waiting for him to come up with a solution, I decided to call other rental services in the area. I was able to secure a U-haul which was available immediately. When I called Penske to ask what they were going to do about their failure, they told me they aren't going to do anything since the truck was never checked out to me. When I made the reservation, I was given confirmation and a guarantee that the truck would be there ready to rent. But in the end, the truck wasn't there. I didn't rent it. My project was late and over-budget. I am owed compensation for this. Penske's guarantee is empty and worthless.
