    Pet Assure FAQ

    How does Pet Assure work?

A Pet Assure plan gives you a 25% discount on all in-house veterinary medical services at participating clinics. Unlike with pet insurance, there are no waiting periods, deductibles, annual limits or claims. You can cover any pet, no matter its age or preexisting conditions, and you can use a Pet Assure plan an unlimited number of times.

What does Pet Assure not cover?

Pet Assure doesn’t cover nonmedical services, including grooming. Services must be in-house, so bloodwork that's outsourced isn't covered. Pet Assure also doesn’t cover things you might take home from the vet’s office, like prescription medication.

Is there a waiting period after enrollment?

No, Pet Assure members can receive discounts as soon as they’re enrolled.

How do you use a Pet Assure veterinary discount?

First, you have to make sure you’re visiting a participating veterinarian, or costs won’t be discounted. Once you visit a participating vet and it’s time to pay the bill, you simply show your Pet Assure ID card to the staff, who will then apply the 25% discount.

What is Pet Assure’s cancellation policy?

Pet Assure has a 45-day cancellation policy. Customers can request a refund within 45 days of enrolling.

    Is Pet Assure worth it?

A Pet Assure discount plan is likely worth it if you take your animal to the vet more than a few times a year. All animals are eligible, and it’s less complicated than having a traditional pet health insurance policy. With plans starting at under $10 per month, it’s relatively inexpensive. Plus, you can cancel your Pet Assure plan within 45 days of signing up and get a refund if you aren’t satisfied.

Do yourself a favor and avoid this company. I have paid into this waste of money for years. I finally took my cat to the vet and ended up with 800.+ in bills. I reached out to Pet Assure and was told I needed to present my card at the time of payment to receive the discount. They would not give me a discount after the fact. I explained I had no idea I needed a card and assured her they never sent me a card. The very unfriendly lady told me They no longer mail cards and I should have printed of a virtual card. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT. This company is very disappointing and I am also complaining to my company for partnering with such a shady company. Disgraceful is all I can say. I cant even cancel my membership until my company renews insurance 10 months from now.

Pet Assure is perfect for me and my kitty and bunny. It gives me exactly what I am looking for and what regular pet insurance does not cover. Right on the website it says it gives a 25% discount at participating Vets and allows you to look up your local vets in the nearby area. With that said of course you cannot submit a claim because this is a discount card more than anything else. It comes in helpful if your insurance doesn't cover exams or the like. And it's a good card to receive a discount on your pet's medication should they need it. Just have to read thoroughly before clicking to sign up.

Buyer Beware! Turns out, you can buy Pet Assure health insurance, but you can't actually use it! I purchased insurance and when I took my dog to the vet, they said they'd never heard of Pet Assure, but that many insurances were super easy to work with - just send a snapshot of the receipt or keep a claim form of theirs at the office. Great service from my vet! When I went on the website, it turns out - NONE of the vets I've been to are on the list of "approved vendors." So if you have a great vet - too bad! Pet Assure won't work with them! I called (a little disbelieving the service could truly be that limited) and the customer support guy was like, "Yeah. Maybe return the card for a refund?" What a load of garbage.

Despite what the previous reviewer stated, the exclusions are not decided on a whim. In fact, they are stated fairly clearly on the Pet Assure website: "Veterinarians are not required to discount non-medical services such as routine grooming and boarding, outsourced services such as blood work sent to a lab or an outside specialist, mileage fees, and products you take home such as medications and food." Essentially, what this means is that office visits, dental cleaning, surgical procedures, etc. ARE covered.

The previous reviewer also stated that the only vets that participate are vets that charge exorbitant rates that are 3x that of the local competition. This is also untrue. While relatively few vets accept Pet Assure, the vet we were already using does and always has accepted it. Their rates were quite reasonable until last year at which point they went up about 30% to cover renovations and a massive expansion of the practice. None of this had anything to do with Pet Assure.

One last point in regards to the previous review is that Pet Assure is NOT pet insurance. It is not intended to be. Think of it more like a Costco membership for which you pay an annual fee in order to get a discount. The more you spend, the more the membership pays for itself. Anyway, we have had Pet Assure for several years. We paid $69 per year for the Unlimited Pets plan for the first few years. At that price it was well worth it. Between office visits, dental cleanings and surgeries we saved several hundred per year. Unfortunately, the same plan now costs $199 and at that price - even with the vast number of pets we have - it would take at least 2 surgeries to warrant the cost. We have decided we are better off just gambling for the meager savings that the plan now offers in relation to its cost.

Pet Assure is a joke.. The only vets that participate with them are grossly over-priced. Be sure to check a few other vets around the immediate area before committing $10-$20 a month of your hard earned money (for Pet Assure) to end up at a vet that you would have never considered, that ends up charging you 3X more than the vet down the street. Not to mention that the vet can decide at any given time that anything on the Pet Assure website listed as qualifying they can decide not to discount at their own discretion and with blatant proof that there are multiple qualifying items not being discounted. Pet Assure will ultimately side with the vet and say that they don't see them as having done anything wrong. This sham of an insurance, is a disgrace. Take my advice and avoid it. I have multiple receipts with hundreds of dollars in discount not given.
