    What is U-Pack?

U-Pack is a long-distance moving service that offers budget-friendly storage containers, trailers and professional drivers for moves of at least 100 miles. It's available in all 50 U.S. states, Canada and Puerto Rico. It doesn’t provide local moving services, though, so don’t plan to use U-Pack if you’re just moving across town. U-Pack provides free quotes online and over the phone.

    How does U-Pack work?

U-Pack’s website offers free instant quotes (you can also call an agent to work out details) and booking. You’ll be charged once the shipment is picked up, so the final cost could be higher or lower than the original quote if you end up needing more or less storage than you requested.

U-Pack rents out trailers for larger homes. It also offers the ReloCube, a single-size container that can fit approximately one room of furniture and boxes. You can rent several of these, which could be cheaper if you have fewer things. With either option, U-Pack gives you three days to pack your things and three days to unload.

    U-Pack moving services

U-Pack is a long-distance moving and storage company that provides cube containers and trailers. The company drops off the container or trailer and gives you up to three business days for loading. Once your shipment is ready to go, U-Pack picks it up and drives it to your long-distance destination or to a storage facility. U-Pack specializes in military moves, cross-country trips, senior moves, student moves and any interstate move farther than 100 miles.

The shipment may be delivered within a broad delivery window, or you can select Guaranteed Delivery so you know the exact date your shipment will be delivered — and even the two-hour delivery window. Delivery may be door-to-door, or if parking is limited at one of your addresses, the shipment can be loaded or unloaded at a local U-Pack service center. This option can reduce costs by up to $300.

    How much does U-Pack cost?

U-Pack charges for use of a trailer or ReloCube, transport and storage. Its prices are based on the amount of space you need, the distance of your move and the length of storage. You can get a free, instant quote on the website and save $25 by booking online. Typically, U-Pack moving prices range from $500 to $2,500. If you're a student, active service member or former service member, call to ask a U-Pack representative about getting a discount.

    U-Pack FAQ

How big is a U-Pack ReloCube?

A ReloCube is about 305 cubic feet and is designed to fit all furniture and moving boxes from one large room.

    How expensive is U-Pack?

Prices depend on the amount of space you need and the transport distance. Typically, a U-Pack move will cost between $500 and $2,500.

How long does it take U-Pack to deliver?

It usually takes U-Pack two to five days to deliver your things.

How much storage can U-Pack deliver?

For smaller homes, you can use multiple ReloCubes to fit all your belongings; U-Pack also offers trailers for larger homes.

    Is U-Pack worth it?

U-Pack can be more affordable than a full-service moving company, and it’s transparent about its fees. The company offers fast delivery times, and you only have to pay for the storage you use. Overall, we think U-Pack is a good option if you’re looking for an easy long-distance moving solution and want to avoid hidden costs.

So I want to start off by saying I read every single review in here before deciding to go with U-Pack. It was so cheap compared to Pods, and easier to manage compared to Uhaul's shipping containers, but I was very nervous. I personally had a great experience. I got one of the containers, not part of a trailer, and was having it shipped from Florida to Iowa. They dropped it off to my mom, and she had it packed up and ready to go. I scheduled pickup for Monday on Friday morning- they ended up coming Tuesday (but not a huge deal considering no one needs to be there for pickup). It arrived in Iowa on Sunday and I chose drop off today between 8-12, and he came at 8:30. It overall went super well! The customer service was very nice and the truck drivers communicated with me whenever they were headed my way.

Nothing but good things to say about U-Pack and ABF Freight. Our son and his roommate moved their freshman dorm stuff from Texas to Chestnut Hill, Mass. The container arrived on their scheduled Move-In Day and everything was in good/working condition. Big shout out to Aubrey ** on the Houston U-Pack side and to Jimmy ** on the ABF side. Both went above and beyond to help our son and his roommate's move go smoothly.

      Reviewed Aug. 29, 2022

This is the email I sent to U-Pack/ABF over 3 weeks ago and have not had any response. I'm including U-pack and ABF in this reply as I am overall extremely dissatisfied in my choice to use this service for my out of state moving. I'm very unhappy with how this situation was handled. I was a warehouse supervisor for 10 years and have loaded and unloaded countless trucks for long haul, cross country transport. I have been in the freight and transportation industry for over 20 years. I am fully aware of how to load, unload, stack, pack etc and the condition of freight after long hauls in commercial vehicles. I loaded exactly as the specifications on the website stated.

Load the largest and heaviest furniture, appliances and boxes first. Place them against the walls to help evenly distribute the weight throughout the truck/trailer/container. Stack items from floor to ceiling, putting heavy items on the bottom and lighter ones on the top. Load tight, like a jigsaw puzzle — fill all space to avoid shifting in transit. Use things like pillows, rugs and bags of linens to fill any open space. Each tier should be close to the trailer/ReloCube ceiling before beginning the next tier. Tie each one off with ratchet straps/rope to secure. Place fragile items or awkwardly shaped items on last and secure tightly (make sure to mark them “fragile”).

Place lightweight, loose items like small rolled up rugs, bundled mops and brooms on top. All of my belongings were packed in plastic totes of the same size and shape. Everything else was furniture or odd shaped/sized that had to be loaded separately. These were packed light on top and heavy on bottom. I had multiple blankets, dog beds etc packed in between. My loading job could not have been more even, level and secure. I used somewhere between 10-15 ratchet straps throughout the load. I am very offended that I am being blamed for the damage and expected to believe that this was all perfectly normal transport. Again, I have unloaded hundreds of trailers and I'm VERY aware of what damage from poor loading looks like. More often than not, entire loads are not damaged on arrival.

Parts of trailers that were loaded securely and level will not have sustained damage while other parts are damaged due to how they were stacked. My entire container showed proof of extreme vibration and shaking. This is not normal. I Am aware from your letter that investigation showed no accidents or abnormal conditions, that may be true, however, that does not show that the equipment itself was not in need of some sort of servicing like suspension, balancing etc. I had a metal bathroom wall rack in my container.

Although it sustained no damage, it was securely put together and has roughly 20 bolts holding all the bars together. Upon arriving here it was completely disassembled and every bolt had completely unscrewed itself and come out of the bars. That is not normal conditions, that is extreme vibration and constant movement.

The purpose of this email is for one, to let U-pack know how my situation is being handled. I can not in good conscience promote or encourage others to use this service. I was very excited to use a service like this and not have to drive a moving truck across 3 states. After this experience I wish I had. It was not cheaper than renting a truck, possibly more expensive and then to have so much damage to my belongings is very disappointing. Secondly, people considering using your service should be aware of just what extremes they need to go through to not have their property damaged. I have more experience with freight than most people I know, so the majority of your customers are going to experience the loss I have and if that's not the case then there were definitely excessive circumstances with my move.

I was very fair in the damages I listed for review, I did not nitpick and only listed the major things that were damaged which did not amount to a great deal (the pergola I listed was brand new and sustained lots of cosmetic wear, the price I listed was the value of when I purchased it but I was not expecting full compensation). I am very offended that not only can you not find some way to fairly accommodate me but you tell me it's my fault and pass blame to me. That's no way to provide good customer service and so again, I cannot give recommendations to anyone or provide good reviews.

This was our 2nd time using U-Pack (ABF). First time was in 2006 and we had no complaints back then. This time was different. They left our loaded trailer sitting in near 100° desert heat for 8 days before it started moving to our destination 1800 miles away. Then it took 10 more days for it to finally arrive. What people need to know is that this is not a dedicated door-to-door service. Your personal items can be re-routed to anywhere in the country U-Pack decides, before finally making it to you. This subjects your items to additional road conditions and because you load it yourself, the company is not liable at all for any damages incurred to your things while in-transit. You and your personal affects are completely at their mercy. I thought that because we used an entire 26’ trailer-space, they would not have any reason to re-route our things while in-transit to pick up additional freight. I was wrong.

They said they still had 2’ of space to use for other customers’ things which may be destined for cities or towns along the route to us. And then they pick up more, re-route, drop-off, pick up another 32 square feet, re-route, drop off and repeat several times before ever reaching you, further subjecting your things to unknown, unforeseen road conditions over a prolonged stretch of time. When I called U-Pack ‘customer service’, it quickly became apparent to me that they are not a customer-service-oriented company. They will find any way they can to paint themselves as honorable while you sit helplessly like a fool, waiting for your personal items to arrive.

They had all of our things and $5,000 of our money. Complaining to them made no difference. They have your stuff and they will subject your items to as additional many road-miles as they wish to maximize profit. That is all they care about. It’s been 12 days and we are still waiting for delivery. U-Pack has cured us. We will never move out of state again. This has been a totally bizarre nightmare. Getting too old for this bs. Suggestion: If you are planning an upcoming move, either hire a professional full-service moving company with end-to-end liability coverage, or rent a U-Haul truck, load it and drive it yourself. U-Pack is only good for commercial/business shipping. They should not be in the residential service market at all. Your things will be destroyed unless you at least hire a pro to load it for you.

If I could give them ZERO stars I would. We chose U-pack over UHaul to move our daughter from Richmond VA to Fort Wayne Indiana. We had to pack the Relo-Cube at their facility which was fine since it brought the price down. On Friday, July 15th we loaded it up, locked it up, signed the paperwork and left. According to the contract, it was to arrive in Fort Wayne in 5-7 business days - so no later than July 26th. On the 27th, I contacted the facility in Fort Wayne to schedule the delivery and was told that they did not have our cube and that it appeared to still be in Richmond. I immediately contacted customer service and had several conversations that day and every day thereafter for the next 2 weeks.

It quickly became apparent that they had no idea where our cube was and had no way to track it because apparently someone in Richmond failed to do their job and log it on the manifest. There are also no GPS trackers on the pods to safeguard against human error. I was told many times that it "wasn't lost," that they had to have people "walk the yards" and check the CCTV footage, first in Richmond, then it was Winston Salem, then it was Ohio, then New York. I was told about how these facilities were super backed up and had tons of trucks to be offloaded and that it would turn up. Eventually they refunded our 850.00 - the cost for the service but assured us that it would be found and that they were still looking.

A month later, our daughter is 10 hours away, in a new city where she knows no one, sleeping on an air mattress on the floor, without her belongings. Our entire summer vacation was planned around this trip to help her move and we had to leave her without her things. Suddenly, they don't want to return emails and phone calls and when I posted about our experience on their Facebook page they deleted it and blocked me. Our claim for reimbursement is pending. Bottom Line - USE ANOTHER COMPANY but no matter who you go with, do yourself a favor and put your own GPS tracker in the container.

We were moving from NY to FL. We were given a 28 ft trailer which at the time of delivery did not know it was damaged. When it arrived to us in Florida the roof of the trailer was badly leaking and you could see daylight looking up at the ceiling of the trailer. Upon further inspection we noticed it was damaged previously because it looked like they had tried to seal the leaks. All of our belongings were just saturated with water. At the very least U-Pack should have inspected the trailer before delivering it to us. Especially since they knew it had a previous leak on the top of the trailer. I feel that is total negligence on their part.

They really cover themselves with their contract because they only pay $.10 per pound up to $2000. Everything we owned was on that trailer. We expected possibly some breakage if things got shifted around during the transport but never did we think there would be damage in the roof that caused so much water damage. They will not compensate us enough for what we have lost. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

I have used U-Pack on more than one move across the country and as of today I can say that they have gone down hill thanks to JESSE out of the main office in Arkansas. I had moved across the country back in April and had the Lawrenceville, GA office hold my cube ever since. I was told to call the main line to get them to adjust my full monthly rate because my bill due date is tomorrow October 6th and I'm having my cube delivered this Friday, October 8th. JESSE refused to help me after I have been informed that they normally do this. So now I'm paying my full 30 day fee for a few days. BEWARE of speaking with this kid and using this company. They obviously could use losing customers!!!!

I don’t typically leave good reviews as I expect a company to do what they offer and don’t need praise for doing so. ABF/U-Pack has given me a reason to leave a GLOWING review. I had to move a 5 bedroom house from WNY to Central Texas. Daunting in every way. ABF was the bright point. Their pricing blew the competition out of the water. They gave me 5 days (including a weekend) to pack at my pace to ensure everything arrived safe and secure. They picked up the trailer when they said they would. Tracking was easy and if there was a delay, the customer service was pleasant and helpful.

When it arrived at the destination, I had access to the actual person who dispatched the trailer to my final location. Not a 800 number in another state or country looking at the same data I can see online. Shoutout to Randy at the Killeen Texas depot. I may have called him a few times. He was always courteous and helpful. When we were done packing and unpacking, I got a text to do a simple notification to the location to pick up the trailer. To my surprise and elation, they did it the same business day! I cannot rave enough about this company and the quality of their service. If I ever have to move again, I’d hire them without hesitation.

U-Pack Review. Worst experience ever. I’m moving from Massachusetts to Nevada.

o They dropped off the 28’ trailer in my driveway in Massachusetts on time. Giving me 5 days to load.

o Packing material: It’s a moving company, so I expected pads, blankets, ropes, all kinds of necessities to pack .. there was NONE, zero. When I called, they said, "We don’t supply any," so I had to go buy everything.

o The trailer was dirty: Dirt, wood chips, debris, used straws, empty juice boxes, …etc. I had to clean it before putting my stuff in.

o The ramp: The ramp doesn’t slide out/in from under the trailer like U-Haul trucks, it’s a 200-250 LB folded in half ramp, to be carried out/in to the trailer.

o The lock pad: To lock the trailer overnight, I asked for the key to the lock-pad attached to the trailer gate, I was told “We can’t give you that, you have to buy your own”.

o 2 days later; I get a call from their driver “I’m ready to pick-up the trailer” I told him I’m not even halfway done, the deal is 5 days.

o Ramp Doesn’t fit: When the ramp is folded, it doesn’t fit the width of the trailer, it's about 6”-12” wider than the trailer, you have to stand it up to fit in.

o The “Bulkhead Panel”: The gate to secure your stuff from moving around, is falling apart, broken wood, with holes all over… heavy, needs 2 people to move it and adjust it to lock.

o Delivery to destination: Was promised 7-8 business days to deliver … needless to say it took them 22 day to arrive in Nevada.

o Close on weekends: They don’t do business on weekends!!! No delivery, no pickup, not even answering their phones. A moving company close on weekends!

o $900 for no reason: Was surprised to see an additional $900 charge on my CC for a month worth of storage that I didn’t ask for. When I called, they say they will credit the CC back, 10 days later, no credit, called back, they said: “For some reason it didn’t go through. Let me do it again.” Check again in another 4-5 business days. Finally got it after 2 weeks.

o 70%-80% Damage: Trailer arrived with 70-80% of my furniture and boxes are damaged… fron scratches and dings, to completely crushed beyond repair or use – when I called – he says, "Nothing we can do for you."

o Pad-locks were cut: they cut the 2 padlocked I have on the trailer doors without even calling or notifying me.

Upack makes the process very easy. You can get an accurate quote and booking online without talking to someone; they'll later call to confirm. They use local freight distributors who know exactly what you need to do in your area to legally have the truck out in the street, and they will walk you through the whole process of getting a permit if needed. Everyone I spoke to on the phone was very friendly and helpful, as were all our drivers. On top of that, the price can't be beat. You're doing your own loading and unloading, but even if you hired movers on both ends, you're likely still going to come out far ahead of the full service companies price-wise. Upack got my stuff half way across the country with zero breakage in 10 days. Couldn't be happier.
