I have been a member of USAA for many years. I served from 1986 to 2006. I got married and we tried adding my wife to the account. We are still working on it over a year later. Every time we turn around they ask for another document. We keep providing scans, pics, IDs, signatures, etc every time we turn around. We have literally spent over 40 hours of our time on the phone. This is crazy. My wife gave up. She went to another bank, walked in and got her account. Today they locked my account which has my money in it and told me we have to provide even more info. More documents. This is by far the worst customer service I have ever seen. I am absolutely at my wit's end. I can't even access my own money. I truly think it is Time to get a different bank for everything I do with them. I will be looking for different insurance also. I am not spending any more money on a company that does this to their own customers.

This is a terrible bank that doesn’t help if you have problems. They cleared me for an account since my wife’s grandfather is a veteran and my father is a veteran. Put all my money into my account, got a debit card. But they locked me out of my account because of fraud or eligibility purposes, they haven’t been consistent or clear as of why. No one can tell me the problem and to top it off they are holding ALL of my money and says I will have to wait until they close my account and another 60 days for a check with my money!!! Even when it’s their fault, they’re holding my money. This should be illegal, they’re stealing my money and making money off of it. They are not treating me like a person, I have bills to pay and no matter how many times I tell them this they don’t care. Period. They’re ripping veterans off too and hold checks for a month before it hits your account. No one should use this bank, just terrible.

So far switching my banking, car insurance and a few other things to USAA has been complete disaster. First is mobile deposits taking 7 days to clear and no real answers as to why, then being told that all I had to do was call and get them pushed through which was a lie. Then I disputed a charge on my account. After sending in all the info I was hit with a chargeback for a provisional credit. I sent in everything they needed and was told they didn't get it. I sent everything through the mobile app. Just being told there is nothing they could do is frustrating. They don't actually work the disputes because it doesn't affect them any. They are definitely not all about Veterans or Military. They are all about the money. I will be moving everything back to NFCU.

I had to file a debit card dispute when a company refused to refund me for services not rendered. It was $700 charged and I submitted all evidence to USAA which was clear as day in black and white. I followed the terms of the agreement with the company and should be entitled to a refund, but the company was refusing it. So USAA dispute was my last line of defense, and they are not there for me. After 6-8 weeks of silence they closed my dispute and said, “Nothing is wrong”, no additional help.

I won’t be depositing my paychecks or savings there anympre. They’re assisting in theft from honest people. They also don’t have ATMs and charge a fee to use one.

Negative zero stars... USAA does little to help with fraud cases that are clearly their liability. I am the victim of identity theft, my account was hacked without my knowledge or authorization. The culprits added a fraudulent external account and transferred $5k in and out on the same day 2 separate times, just like other people's review stories. USAA has not been forthcoming about my case and refuses to give valid information on why they are blaming me. Below is USAA's mission statement: “to provide excellent service for our members, we stand financially strong.”

Excellent service my **. Stop being a hypocrite USAA. No one on these reviews have experienced Excellent service. If this was the case, we would have our monies that are owed to us by now. I'm still out $10k because of USAA's lack of service. After all these years and I am treated like nothing. Stand by your word, USAA, and pay me back my money in full. Lastly, USAA has the nerve to send a NSF fee alert saying I have to bring my delinquent account to current. Fraud is fraud. Do your job and make things right.

Usaa is will only freeze up your money and create financial hardships for you. I would suggest banking anywhere else. Their customer service is not only cruel and impossible to get anything fixed through, but incredibly rude and insulting. I have spent almost 20 hours across 6 days calling trying to get a duplicate charge and frozen employer deposit fixed and no one could tell me why it's withheld, nor could they fix it. Resulting in me waiting additional weeks to get my paycheck.

Been a member for over two decades. A Gold Star Spouse. Not only do I agree with all the 1 star comments here about the negative change throughout the years but in my case, the mistake was solely on USAA side. So, I, as well as several family members, have checking accounts with USAA. We often transfer funds between those accounts. A few months ago I made one of those transfers, only to realize the next day that it did not go through. After a few minutes, I noticed that my dad's account number changed to a number I have never seen before. I called and spoke to a representative who was also stumped, but eventually found out that the account is not even a USAA account.

So, just to make it clear, my dad's USAA account changed to a non-USAA account ALL BY ITSELF. Since then I've called USAA at least 10 times and basically, they tell me the other bank refuses to refund and that's that. Today I spoke to another USAA rep who said the last thing they can do is escalate it to an "escalation department" (of course, no direct phone number) and that they will call me. I don't see myself getting the amount refunded and in that case I will be leaving USAA for good.
